I'm not sure why "danton" thinks this is old news as there was a meeting to talk about it yesterday at CAAT !

Why does this happen so often her on the newswire, this is important stuff but somebody always comes along and claims "troll" or "police posting".

I heard about this late last night and it's bloody worrying, it seems vast amounts of details were passed on and the bloke is still working at Disarm DSEI, I want to know why.

Here's what CAATs press officer said on the matter in an email yesterday:

"Connections between Martin and disarm are not our prime motivation. Please let me reiterate - this is absolutely not an attack on disarm DSEi, or some sort of 'alert' to people working with disarm specifically. My posting didn't mention disarm at all, precisely because we don't want to tar their work with Martin's activities."

On the question of why CAAT waited until the immediate run-up to DSEi in order to release the information - thus distracting from the real business of tackling an orgy of death dealing which results in the immiseration of billions:

"I agree wholeheartedly with you that this should have been dealt with months ago, and certainly soon after February, when the last correspondence with the Information Commissioner took place. It's personally problematic for me that legal and bureaucratic proceedings have held up publication this long - I'm currently trying to draw up a media strategy for DSEi, and this is not a useful part of it. Unfortunately, I don't have control over when materials are given the go-ahead for release. Nonetheless, we're putting out the evidence before DSEi rather than after for precisely the reason that it's at DSEi, the largest mobilisation of the anti-arms trade calendar, that activists' security and safety is likely to be at risk if they don't know about this."

Basically - according to the Sunday Times, CAAT was infiltrated by at least 6 "agents" during the 1990s. They have handled this incredibly ineptly - and I suggest that if anyone believes that they might be at risk, they should contact CAAT and discuss the matter with them. Mike Lewis, their press officer can confirm that the words quoted are his. They should also seek clarification on why this information wasn't released in February - if it is so "urgent" that it has to be spewed out 6 weeks before DSEi.

It would be useful if "Alan Petersen" gave some indication of who he was, and his motivation for posting this up - there is already a thread from yesterday, posted up by someone who said that Martin was working with STOP DSEi - which suggests that they aren't exactly insiders in the anti-arms campaign.

I don't find this information a "yawn". The quote from the CAAT press officer is clear,

"that activists' security and safety is likely to be at risk if they don't know about this."

I am concerned that instead of asking questions some people seem to be trying to sweep it under the carpet, I think we need to consider why there are some who don't want this talked about, who don't want questions asked about this mans continuing involvement with the major camapign to halt the DSEI fair.

Has the Disarm DSEI group been able to confirm or deny any of this ? There is nothing on their website about it.

For those who would like further information a meeting is going to be held to reveal the full level of the problem on Saturday the 30th of July at 2pm. It will be at the Bertrand Russell Room, Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, London WC1, I think Holbon is the nearest tube station.

The full evidence will be available and questions concerning security will be answered.

"Alan Peterson" is a psuedonym. I am an individual active in arms trade protest and felt this issue was not being given the publicity it deserved. It is clear from how quickly certain individuals have tried to muffle discussion that the powers in the shadows would like this to be ignored and this person be allowed to continue in his role.

It's not possible to work _at_ Disarm DSEi,as Disarm doesn't have any office. Anyone who's used email with disarm should expect those details to be known to security services anyway because they moniter email.

Re the meeting, it hasn't been called to discuss Martin, Disarm called to discuss Disarming DSEi. Look at their website.

Right now this is becoming a farce with lots of accusations/counter-accusations and no facts whatsoever.

Verifiable facts and sources are needed here.

If people are unhappy about this being hidden, then they need to take it to features.

A clear report from CAAT compiled over a number of weeks by experienced people described a "unsubstantiated allegations"
