In an interview on Radio 4's Talking Politics show this morning Sir Ian rejected allegations that he had attempted to cover up the multiply cock-ups behind the shooting of Jean Charles d' Menezes.

"The thing that I would want to say is that of all the allegations made in the last couple of days, the matter I would most want to reject is the concept of a cover-up.", he said.

So with that cleared up and us all nicely reassured and corrected Ian Blair went on to tell us to put the murder of one irrelevent foreigner into context.

"Tragic as the death of Mr Menezes is, and we have apologised for it and we take responsibility for it, it is one death out of 57.

Again, we stand corrected. How insensitive of us to be concerned that armed police and military 'experts' are running around with guns firing off round after round into innocent commuters. We should clearly focus our attention on dealing with the motivies of the terrorists that launched unprovoked attacks on London - perhaps we should start a war somewhere.

"we can't let that one tragic death outweigh all others." Bliar (no relation) reminds us.

Mr Menezes' family has called for Sir Ian to resign, and accused him of lying about aspects of the shooting and of attempting a cover-up.
