USA killing animals

Lucy | 02.09.2005 10:06

After the Katrina disaster animals bearing the brunt of the horror

In a disgusting move the US government have banned people from taking their animals with them during the evacuations from Louisiana and New Orleans. The Army trucks and coaches used to collect people are refusing to take the dogs and cats which keepers are trying to rescue. As a consequence animals will die.

The US Secretary of State has described animals as "not as important as people". We would ask all animal loving activists to contact the US Embassy and register you protest at this murder.

American pet killings of hurricane victims

05.09.2005 15:15

I am disgusted that American Government officials in the New Orleans, disaster will not allow people to keep their pets who managed to survive the hurricane katrina. Pets are loved and part of a family, and for people who do not have family or have lost family in the disaster, it is even more heartbreaking that their rescued pets would be taken away from them or killed. I know that there are a lot of people homeless, but for many people their pets mean as much to them as family and friends, and can give enormous comfort. Cats and dogs are mammals like us, have emotions and give and receive love.

International animal aid charities were slow to respond in the tsunami. I was appalled by their talk but lack of response. Big charities had the money but didn't use it on time, if at all. This meant there were mass killings of thousands of animals. They could build mass shelters, many animals are microchipped. It makes you wonder why they can't organise, and although they do help animals, I don't think they do as much as they could.

US EMBASSY AMBASSADOR

You can write to Ambassador Robert Holmes Tuttle at the Embassy of the United States London. 24 Grosvenor Square, London, W1A 1AE, United Kingdom. Switchboard: [44] (0)20 7499-9000 www.usembassy.org.uk/ukaddres.html
It is better to write to or fax Ambassador Tuttle at the Embassy because otherwise you will only talk to the switchboard. You can let him know if you are not happy with the American Government’s rescue and treatment of people and animals in the hurricane areas.

A petition could be started on PledgeBank to complain about the slow response of President Bush on holiday and playing his guitar. Bush's dad was President.
The useless space cadet Louisiana state Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco was wearing her expensive jewels when she appeared on television. Kathleen Marie Antoinette Blanco should sell them and give money to the people who didn’t die because of her. Her father was the Mayor of New Orleans from 1970-1978, her brother is the Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana. I can't see how else she got the job.
Michael Brown, the head of FEMA had minimal emergency management experience before joining the agency in 2001, and had spent the previous 10 years organising horse shows for the International Arabian Horse Association. Press reports claimed he had had to leave that job because of questions about his performance. Why did Bush appoint him to the job, maybe because he had important Saudi friends like President Bush? The slow response of the head of FEMA meant many lives lost.
Looks like they got their jobs because they know important people.
Mayor Nagin has been right in critcising them.

How could the American Government hurt these people when they need their pets for comfort? The animals, especially family members need to be saved as well as the people.
