NO CHOICE

08.09.2005 15:51

The BBC have NO choice but to hand over the tapes, by giving up the BNP secret agent tapes they have to give up all, once you offer yourselfe as a evidence source then you have opend the box They were warned about this by the other media outlets, ch4, ch5 but took no notice.
They were told ! that by volunteering evidence you no longer have the right to journalistic protection under the law, so they simply threw 100 years of protection out of the nearest window.
If they hadn't done it, even with a warrent, it's tough titty for plod, but they did so it is tough titty for you !
So it is hard luck from now on.
So next time you see a BBC film crew... THINK PRISON SENTENCE
As The Rozzers now have automatic rights to the tapes...Thank BBC Nottingham !

boycott bbc

Yet another reason to boycott the BBC - as if their completely biased reporting wasnt enough. Activists should adopt a policy of removing the BBC from their press release lists and not talking to their journalists at all until this issue is dealt with. Starve them of access to news sources while others get it and they'll learn their lesson. They have done the same in various of the injunctions going on as well.

Yea, the other companies are scum as well, but this is a more fundamental issue of media reportage that a stand needs to be made here as well.

boycott

It would be a bit difficult to starve the bbc of their news sources as I am guessing that they, like most media, read Indymedia!

In Nottingham the local bbc news has the London road roundabout in view behind the news readers, could have some fun with that!

it's a difficult issue

09.09.2005 12:15

The truth is that the bbc were the only ones to object to the initial very wide warrent that would have given the police rights to seize ALL tapes related to that day (monday 4th july) and to search the premises. As it was they objected (unlike the other itv1 / sky response) and got the terms narrowed (to specific times, places, incidents).

The problematic area imho is that they allowed the police to view all tapes they wanted before deciding which tapes they wanted to warrent seize - which is i guess just the same as allowing them to take all tapes in effect.

In the radio interview there's also something that needs a clarification, and that's when the bbc lawyer says that the nuj bbc chapel in fact asked the bbc to hand over tapes - that does need more explanation.

In previous cases the requests have also included docuumentary written evidence, source lists and tapes of individual interviews - which is i think very different to simply street footage (not to diminish the seriousness of the current case).

Wasn't there a similar attempt to get tapes after J18? anyone know what happened with that?

Good idea

09.09.2005 20:19

as BBC Nottingham have destroyed 100 years of journalistic rights then a go slow bike ride on the London road roundabout is a good idea.
How many have to be Jailed on evidence suppiled by the BBC before you wake up.

BBC video crew = Prison sentence...END OF STORY
