Send email to US senators:maintain right to aobrtion!

pro choice | 18.09.2005 12:00 | Gender

it's really important to oppose judge Roberts as nominee for chief supreme court US. he is a severe threat to womens(and other human) rights, especially the right to abortion.
please do this! it doesnt take much time

No to J.G.Roberts!
No to J.G.Roberts!

Send email to US senators: maintain right to abortion!(it costs little
time. via url under this statement you can send emails with one press of
the button.)
De hearings of the Senat in the US with John G.Roberts, Bushes nominee as
chief supreme court, are taking place these days.
Womens organisations opppose Roberts, cause its known that het is against
abortion.
So its very important that feminists and folks who value the right to
abortion send email to the senators.
Roberts is not only a danger for the right to abortion. He allso has made
statements against positive discrimination of women and minorities,
against privacyprotection according to restrictions of police authorities
and he was against forbidding prayer at schools.
most of these opinions he gave as a lawyer or as an advisor. (not as a
private opinion).
if you click this url, and after that click on take action you can mail to
US senators. its an international action.

The US is a FEDERAL REPUBLIC.

"you can mail to US senators. its an international action."

An international action? Why do you imagine a US Senator would be interested (care two hoots) about opinions from abroad? They do not represent you.

Please understand that although we call them "US Senators" they are from some STATE of the US. The Sentors from my own state of Massachusetts (well, technically Commonwealth of Massachusetts) are not elected by and owe no alliegence to people in any other state. So while they might receive mail from other places approving or disapproving of their actions or telling them what to, that goes straight to the "circular file" (unless from an out of state "fat cat" donor). That is as it should be. I would be rather distressed to think that any decisions made by Kennedy or Kerry would be influenced by what YOU wrote >

Except for the small (samll population) states, our Congresspersons are lected by and responsible only to their districts. It was very humourous back in 2000 to hear a conservative Republican "sacrifical lamb" running for our district tell us that his opponent was "out of step with the country" (way too left is what he meant). Like DUH man, I wanted to shout at him, do you not understand that the job you are seeking is to be OUR rperesentative, not the representative of people in other parts of the country. We don't give a damn that we are out of step >

FYI --- (in case you did not know this) Roberts is going to be easily confirmed. Over his career he made many friends among the Democrats. PROBABLY he will be OK as a Justice but in reality that is anybody's guess. Except in the rare cases when "weak" Justices were appointed (e.g. Thomas) it is actually rather difficult to predict how they will rule once on the bench based on estimations of their politics. In any case, the Justice he is replacing was a solid "no" vote against Row v Wade so he isn't going to make things worse. And he MAY surprise us -- I believe he is actually being appointed for conservative economic reasons, not social reasons. People may be too focused on his posiitons while "doing his job" and not enough on what cases he took on "pro bono" where his personal attitudes might play a larger role.

The battle is going to be over the NEXT appointment. Remember that there are two vacancies and in this case the Jusitce being replaced was a yes vote for Roe v Wade.
