British government is shaping the battlefield with Iran?

Friend | 12.10.2005 10:14 | Analysis | Anti-militarism | Technology | London | World

The British government is quoting 'intelligence' on shaped charges as evidence of Iranian involvement in the Iraq insurgency. How much credibility does it deserve?

The British government has decided to release new claims about the role of Tehran in the attacks on British troops in Southern Iraq. These latest assertions, emanating from defense sources, claim that Iran's Revolutionary Guard trains bomb-makers in Iran and Lebanon who then go to Basra to attack British forces and train others in the use of hi tech roadside bombs.

This is clearly an attempt to directly implicate the Iranian government and indicates a further deterioration in relationships between the two administrations. The crucial question remains about the longer term military aims of the British and US. The more the uncertainty the greater the incentive for Iran to support resistance to the US/UK forces in Iraq. If the allegations about Iranian involvement are true then the greater the justification for an attack against Iran appears to become. A downward spiral that no doubt suits the long term ambitions of PNAC and others.

On a side issue it is interesting that British are citing the use of a particular type of weapon called a 'shaped charge' as evidence of Iranian involvement. A cursory Google search reveals these widely available and sold for civilian as well as military applications. Examples of UK, Australian and US suppliers can be found here, here and here. The question therefore arises why should the use of these weapons should be taken as in any way implying Iranian involvement? The British government is going to face a continuous struggle for credibility in any issues relating to intelligence so long as this man remains in power.

Interesting ?

Yet another post to the Newswire claiming Iran has had no involvement in Iraq. I wonder why so many of these are cropping up now, who is trying to muddy the waters ?

The Iranian involvement in supporting the insurgency in Iraq is well documented and accepted but despite this a well organised campaign seems to have suddenly appeared trying to pretend there is none.

Who posts there ?

Completely wrong!

Iran IS supplying training and weapons to terrorists in Iraq. This has been confirmed by independent sources. Thererfore it is Iran which is in the wrong not the British government who have given warnings to Iran!

I can't understand the mentality of you people. In your world brutal tyrannical dictatorships like Iran who only two months ago you were strongly condeming for executing two teenagers are in the right, and free democracies like Britain which allow people to speak their minds and exercise their rights are in the wrong! What knid of world do you want? One run by democratic nations who cherish freedom or one run by Islamic despotic dictatorships?

They cut his balls and made him eat them, that is what the British did to a Kenyan man and more terrible things such as rape, random killings and more torture. All this while Britian claming to be a democracy. So you see just being a democracy does not make you better then a dictatorship, you can be as bad and even worse. So lets clean up our own garden before complaining about gardens next door.

Concerned, you really need to wake up. Sure, it's possible Iran has been fuelling the resistance and yes, the Tehran regime is a terrible one. I'm interested to see your evidence for this though, as you claim it's "well documented". So far, the only evidence has been Tony Blair's sayso and, well, we all know how reliable that is!

Also, we are not a democracy, far from it in fact. I don't know where you get this idea from.

The issue of Iranian involvement in Iraq is a smokescreen for the issue of British withdrawal.

Better out than in. As Hitler never said, since he was pathologically scared of breaking wind (though not lightning war).

The focus on Basra is interesting, seeing as SAS operatives were recently caught red-handed in the midst of a False Flag Operation, aimed at furtheing ethnic tensions, in that old Colonial game of "Divide & Rule" leaked documents from the UK Overseas & Defense Secretariat Cabinet Office prove the US & UK were actively pursuing a full year before the war.

This is what Regime's like Bliars do when they get caught in such activities, go on the offensive, and pour so many Distractions on the public that everyone forgets to follow up on the story.

And the Propaganda is based upon a faulty premise anyhow, seeing as the US and UK attacked Iraq in an unprovoked, long-meditated act of Naked Aggression, in full violation of International Laws. The Iraqi Resistance has every right to try to force the Foreign Aggressor from within their borders, and any State would be within their to aid them.

But unless Bliar or his pundits infecting this site can provide any evidence, this sounds like yet another case of "Saddam could attack with nuclear weapons in 45 minutes!!!" ...

Bullsh*t.
