dissapointed feeler | 19.10.2005 11:35 | Indymedia | Repression | Oxford | World

last night i again asked where my article had gone. You put that up for a short while i believe as a friend of mine saw it. Today it's gone again.

I suppose indymedia is just like everything else, you want bright lights and action, blood and guts before you consider it news.

Quiet, considered pacifism, an answer to the problems of the world that requires that we change ourselves in order to affect positive change on others is difficult, yes, but it may be the only way.

After all we have tried everything else.

take a look at the last two comments on
'Art of War:Katrina' if you want to know more.

Please put back the article,

'Have I found the answer?' by Oxford feeler.

I'd say you write to the editorial collective:  imc-uk-features@lists.indymedia.org and explain about your posting. They will explain why they've hidden it and it can always be unhidden...

I saw you also posted the article 'disappering news' 5 times! Surely that's not the way to get a point across. These posts will just get hidden too, and that's not gonna get anything forward. Get in touch with the collective and start a dialogue. Someone there thought there was a good enough reason to hide your post in the first place...

I thought I was imagining it...

19.10.2005 12:31

I did see it a few weeks ago. I wasnt sure if I had imagined a personal message.

I copied it out and sent it to George Bush but I also put it on my phone.

I like it, though I'm not sure I could live by it all of the time. I am still a smoker wanting to be able to give up but havent made it yet though Ive cut down since reading your words. I am vegan, mostly.

I see your point and I thimk that is why someone has taken it off, it would just be too difficult for some people who like to think theyre really sound but actually wouldnt change their lifestyle to do something for somone else.

I would like to see OxIM to put your posting back. It should not have been removed.

Just be realistic

19.10.2005 13:01

feeler: don't be disappointed, just realistic.

The "beauty" of Indy is that there is no collective responsibility, no-one prepared to justify why something is done. Postings are routinely removed with no explanation. They are moved from the Newswire to the Archive where few people bother to go, because we all assume everything gets displayed.

"They" use the Editorial Guidelines as justification for removal, but never say explicitly why a piece was removed. Generally they consider Newswire posts as not news but background info/views/longer pieces that should be in the middle column of IM, but they won't tell you that, won't post a comment to say why something's been hidden.

And of course they could, if they think it's not news but something else, move it to where it should be. But they don't. And of course anything that could be seen as criticism is removed asap with no attempt to respond - back to the no collective responsibility again. I don't know what you posted, I can't see it in the Archives, so it must have severely breached the Editorial Guidelines, or criticised an IM person.

And unlike the mainstream media they continually criticise, they don't publish apologies or retractions.

You'd think the least they could do would be to leave the title in the Archive, with the Editorial Guideline reason why they'd removed it.

what reason?

19.10.2005 14:37

Thank you for your support and explanations DS and Radjel.

Oxford person experiences revelation while looking at oxford indymedia.

Revelation was totally in keeping with ideals of indymedia.

Oxford person tries to share this with others through indymedia.

Please tell me and others why big bro should decide that it was not suitable or just un-hide it as you say you can and let Oxford decide.

Of course you would need to un-hide it with todays date.

Thank you
