Air bosses meeting end Nov ???

planespotter | 24.10.2005 12:32 | Globalisation | Social Struggles | Technology | London | World

IS there a meeting of the Air bosses in London end November?

At the Anarchist Bookfair on Sat, I picked up a couple of
leaflets announcing demos at the end of November because
there's supposed to be a big conference and posh nosh for
airline bigwigs in London organised by the greedboys Inst of
Econ Affairs.

However, I cannot find anything either on the Institutes
website, nor on any of the demo websites (Earthfirst /
RoadAlert or Planestupid -the latter I cannot even get the
website up as server blocks it)

Nothing on AirportWatch or Transport2000 and others about
it as far as I can see so far...

So is there a Conference and are there demos ??

The Institute of Economic Affairs’ 13th Annual Conference
The Future of Air Transport
Reducing costs and maximising revenue in a dynamic and competitive industry

28th, 29th & 30th November The Waldorf Hilton London
Overview Programme Brochure Venue Register Email Page
Overview

Whilst the industry appears to have regained some stability after the shocks of the past few years, fierce cost pressures remain. The rising price of oil and increasing challenge from low cost carriers means that many airlines are still restructuring in order to create and maintain low cost bases, long term. Ongoing liberalisation continues to alter the operating landscape, and therefore strategies for innovation, growth and profitability will be key themes addressed in 2005.

Offering unique access to air transport's leading executives, some of the distinguished speakers confirmed include:

Andrew Sentance, Chief Economist & Head of Environmental Affairs, British Airways
Hideyuki Kanenari, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Management & Strategic Policy and Research, JAL Group
Vinit Gupte, Manager, China, Air India
Paul Gretch, Director, Office of International Aviation, U.S. Department of Transportation
Willy Boulter, Commercial Director, Virgin Atlantic Airways
Hannes Smarason, Executive Chairman of the Board, FL Group/Icelandair
Christian Mandl, Chief Executive Officer, SkyEurope
Ludolf van Hasselt, Head of Unit, Air Transport Policy, Economic Regulation & Multilateral Relations, European Commission
Captain GR Gopinath, Managing Director, Air Deccan
Due to popular demand, we have added a pre-conference seminar focusing on air cargo. It offers a half day dedicated to the discussion of developments and opportunities in the air cargo industry. In-depth analysis and debate will be led by leading industry figures who will address key issues facing the sector today and in the future. Attendance at this pre-conference seminar is essential for cargo operators, freight forwarders, shippers and airports. Outstanding speakers include:

Ulrich Ogiermann, Chief Executive Officer & President, CargoLux
Ajay Virmani, President & CEO, Cargojet Canada
Jeffrey Erickson, President & Chief Executive Officer, Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings
Keith Packer, Senior Vice President Commercial, BA World Cargo
Michael Meagher, Chief Executive, Ocean Airlines
Attracting over 300 delegates in 2004 including CEOs, Chairmen, Board Members and Senior Executives from over 25 countries, this flagship event offers an unrivalled opportunity to interact, network, exchange ideas and build relationships with key industry figures, worldwide.

Please see the programme for further details or contact the conference producer Alexandra Ellis (+44 20 7760 8636) with any further enquiries.

Is this what you mean - from HACAN

Tuesday 29th November: Stroll across Tower Bridge

But why?

That week the aviation industry is staging a major international conference to discuss the expansion of the aviation industry. There is not even a nod in the direction of local communities under the flight path or the wider environment. It is all about “strategies for innovation, growth and profitability” - as if we didn’t exist. Three days when the very top people in the industry, including speakers from BAA and British Airways, gather together without even a token speaker to talk about noise or pollution.

On the evening of Tuesday 29th, the conference delegates are being treated to a gala dinner in a restaurant on the Tower Bridge Walkways (above Tower Bridge).

This is our chance to let them hear us:

Members of environmental, community and residents groups are planning to stroll across Tower Bridge to let the diners know what we think of them. We are aiming to make it a colourful, lively occasion.

The Tower Bridge Stroll starts from about 6.30 in the evening.

The more people who come; the more impact the protest will have.

Make sure the industry can’t act as if we are not there by being there!

Thanks for info

Thanks for the info.

I'm part of a group fighting the expansion plans of Lydd Airport, down here on Romney
Marsh, Kent. Currently just a 'hick' countryside place with light prop planes, the new
owner- a saudi businessman with a fleet of jets in Saudi and has dealings with the
arms trade ! The plans are to slowly expand from business jets to short haul 737 cheap
flights as part of the Gov's plans to decentralise air travel and create more runway space.
It's located right next to the two Nuke Power stations- Dungeness A & B (about 2 miles from
and the main runway- points directly at them !
There are also SSSI's that they want to either 'move' or get re-designated as something else.

Totally unsound both environmentally and economically !
