Blair rebukes Israel for threats and actions against the West bank.

Blair warned Israel last night in his starkest terms that the world would soon start demanding direct action against Tel Aviv if “totally unacceptable” threats and actions to wipe out the West bank were repeated or continued by the Israeli government.

He said that “instead of people telling us we are not going to do anything about Israel, the question people are going to ask is ‘what are you going to do about Israel?’ because you can imagine a state with an attitude like that having nuclear weapons”

Well, that’s telling them.

Israel did not threaten to wipe out the West Bank; they promised to target those who are behind the terrorist attrocities such as those who committed the bombing in Hadera on Wednesday, killing 5 wholly innocent people.

But of course Israel should just let her citizens be slaughtered.

Despite hiding behind the cloak of security, Israel continues to move civilians into the West Bank (not exactly the action of a terrified state) in contravention of the Geneva Convention, and continues to ghettoise the residents of the West Bank into small, non contiguous enclaves which is effectively the same as the destruction of the West Bank.

Furthermore, Israel continues to provoke revenge attacks and then responds by saying that it is acting in the interests of security.

West Bank civilians have the security defended by no-one and an occupied people have the right to resist occupation.

Israel is intent on destroying any Palestinian presense in the west bank - probably in the same way that people like sharon did in the 40's and 50's - through wholesale intimidation, violence, rape and murder, ie ethnic cleansing.

Why are the left so very obbsessed with what is happening in Palestine to the exclusion of places where far, far worse things are happening such as the Dafur region of Sudan. When did the left ever speak out against what is happening there? Why did the left also ignore the genocide of one million people in Rwanda ten years ago?

By the way the Palestinian people wouldn ot be suffering at all if for the past 38 years they had not engaged is murderous acts of terrorism! You fail to see that the Palestinians suffering is self inflicted.

Last post, your'e really not helping with your self smug self righteousness, everybody has differing, varying and fluctuating views according to themselves.

As for you 'concerned', I agree, Darfur seems to have been forgotten, as so many issues do nowadays. I think that the reason the 'left' concentrate on Palestine so much is because it is a cause to cling to, to strive for - call it 'trendy' if you like. Darfur on the other hand is a very grey area; people know terrible things are happening there but it is too unclear. Saying this, some people are often overly zealous to defend the Palestinians, and Israel the same - this is part of the problem - too much anger and frustration is being thrown about, and not enough compassion for each other.

They were walking through a cocoa plantation near the city of Poso in central Sulawesi province when they were attacked.

This is an area that has a long history of religious violence between Muslims and Christians.

A government-brokered truce has only partially succeeded in reducing the number of incidents in recent years.

Police say the heads were found some distance from the bodies.

It is unclear what was behind the attack, but the girls attended a private Christian school and one of the heads was left outside a church leading to speculation that it might have had a religious motive.

Firstly, the "palestinians WERE NAZIS during WWII.
Secondly, combined arab invaded and capture "palesinian land" in 1948. They put the locals into "camps" ANNEXED the territories. Changed the name of Judea and Samaria to the "West Bank" and continued to attacke Israel for the next 60 years.
"palestinians" didn't come into existence until the Arab armies lost the Six Day War.

Israel was given land from Britain in 1948 which is how the formation of Israel came to be. To do this 250,000 arabs/Palestinians (as they see themselves with every right) were left without homes. Ever since it has been Israel expanding and murdering. Over 70 broken UN resolutions is one way of saying Israel is Like a Nazi state. Hitler kept breaking League of Nations resolutions by constantly expanding the German Empire as did Israel break UN resolutions by constantly expanding further and further into land occupied by Palestinians and for Israel Palestinians dont count as Human beings as we have seen many a times. The first suicide bomber struck Israel in 97. This followed 50 years of Israeli oppression and was obviously Palestines last resort method. I cant see what good suicide bombers do to the cause of Palestine but these are people who have bee living in desperation thanks to Israel and the wests support for its murderous regime so I also cant say that I dont understand why one may want to something like this. I hope none of us ever find ourselves in the situation these people are in with no1 listening to their cries for 60 years.
