Eh, not quite

Parliament has just voted to detain people without trial for up to 28 days, doubling the current period. The fact that the government asks for 90 days and gets 28 days and people think that's a victory for freedom just shows how gullible some people can be in the face of tweedle dee- tweedle dum politics.

I wonder how many MPs will oppose internment for the muslim community for up to a month as opposed to seeing the 28/90 days pseudo-debate as one you can take sides in and be anything other than a supporter of the police state being gradually created in this country.

Wise up

09.11.2005 18:12

Moments later, they passed an amendment increasing detention without trial to 28 days. Did you spot that?

Touchy or what?

09.11.2005 18:44

This was posted before they voted for 28 days. And of course, parliament could have overturned the 28 days as well. It just didn't.

Of course, you're so clever that you assume other people are stupid. Nice one!

here comes Xmas

09.11.2005 18:54

YES, it begins...

Blair gets a massive victory, EVERYTHING he planned for (at this stage) and the morons start to quote Blair's OWN black propaganda line from his BBC and other Mass Media sources.

LET ME MAKE IT REAL SIMPLE...Did Hitler fail to become absolute dictator of Nazi Germany? Obviously, history tells us he did not. Did Hitler gain his full powers ALL IN ONE GO? Again, obviously not. Did Hitler maintain a constant progression where he became more and more powerful by ALWAYS moving things in HIS direction? THIS WAS EXACTLY HOW HITLER GAINED HIS POWERS.

Do any of the measures in the new bill move against Blair? NO, every measure will enhance Blair's power, and reduce the civil liberties of the rest of us. If Blair gets ANY significant proportion of what he asks for, will Blair win, or will we win? THE QUESTION IS STUPID... all elements of the bill are designed for Blair- any of them passing in any quantity progresses Blair and diminishes us.

CAN WE CLAIM ANY VICTORY IF ANY SIGNIFICANT PART OF THE BILL PASSES? NO!!!!! The bill was designed purely to progress Blair's power, and place into law principles that DIRECTLY contradict the fabric of our previously existing society. In NO SENSE was the bill designed to pass as a whole. The bill was designed to inject Blair's next dictatorship virus into the dying corpse of our democracy, and nothing will stop that from happening.

NOW HERE COMES THE REALLY SICK PART...by voting for the obscene proposal of 28 days WITHOUT CHARGE (ie NO justifiable reason for arrest in the first place), we are set up for Blair to have his people launch a Xmas bombing campaign in the UK, so that Blair can smirkingly storm into The House of Commons, proclaim he was right all along, and get 90 days (or indefinite, because THAT is what is coming). Blair has successfully created the principle of detention without charge or trial. The exact number of days is a non-issue, for now the principle has been accepted, Blair will easily create the circumstances where he will easily argue for and win the right to hold people for as long as he chooses.

So cheer, you turkeys, cheer loud and long for Xmas. You have the neck, and Blair has the knife, and very soon the two are due to meet!!!

Beware the next Blair stunt to overcome his defeat !

09.11.2005 19:04

Blair is lying again - even after losing his terror attack on civil rights

There is much more to this defeat than the BBC would let their viewers and listeners see and hear.

The role played by serving police officers in lobbying fir legislation of this kind that Blair was plotting, is not a minor matter. The UK constitution, always shaky without a clear code upholding human rights and the rights the innocent majority within the universally recognised framework for fundamental values and rights, is in a dire state.

What are the implications for the UK constitution after the Met Commissioner himself joined the fray as a promoter of the Blair Terror Bill ?

Watch out for an extra parliamentary Blair stunt to divert attention away from this overdue defeat in the House of Commons

Whenever that Blair stunt does come,m pause a moment before swallowing the new Blair lie.

Pause for our rights.

Pause for the rights of the people.

Pause for the sake of freedom and democracy in this country and the rest of the world.

Blair is bound to create pr at least try to create a stunt which on the face and for the immediate hours will give him plausible excuse to capitalise on hatred.

Remember this when that happens.

this is time to count the lies that Blair has told. Count the lies that Bush has told. See how often Blair and Bush have wriggled out by adding newer lies.
Notice how the main moments of their being caught out has then been followed by a new stunt., Altogether new and altogether about hatred.

This time whenever the time is.,the diversionary stunt must not be allowed to mislead the people again.

The WAY FORWARD is NOT more Blair lies, Bush Lies. the WAY FORWARD for the world is with freedom and justice. Within liberty and liberation. With liberation and sharing.

Blair is lying when he even pretends that he deserves to be believed on anything.

What intellectual secrets does Blair have to lie and then seek to justify his latest lying and lies by claim in g some hidden power?

That power to terrorise the society is an evil and it must be seen for what it is.
End Blair’s access to that sort of platform.

NB: The ITV1 news [1830 - 1854 Hrs GMT 9 November 2005 ] presenter is wrong to have used the phrase ‘war with Iraq’.

There was no war with Iraq.

There was war ON Iraq.

There was and has been the occupation of Iraq.

The difference is utterly central to getting to understand and appreciate the truth of the crimes of that war against the people of Iraq and now the extension of that war against the rest of the world.

It's only a matter of time...

09.11.2005 22:27

If Blair's 'presidency' has been undermined, it is only to facilitate Brown's promotion and Blair's discreet exit to the Carlyle Group. The compromise of 28 days detention without charge is another severe blow to our civil liberties and I'm afraid Twilight will be proved right. After the next inevitable MI5 false flag attack, Blairites will blame rebel MP's for failing in their duty to protect the people, with a police state.

question

09.11.2005 22:46

what kind of doofus sends Jack Straw to Russia

and his Gordon Brown to Isreal

the day before this vote

just so he can whisk them back to
make it all look
so pressing & urgent?

another point is that during these so called
terrorist times, where security is 'paramount'

how many leaders would have 2 members of his
cabinet in the air at the same time?

there have been a few plane crashes lately
[killing Rwandan deputy head...]

and several close jobs
one of which a few months ago, granted,
threatened the safety of the NZ prime minister
as the door flew off the plane!

even Blair and Howard had them
during the election

surely this proves Blair is the real threat to
UK National security!!!!!!!

The big picture

09.11.2005 23:21

Step back and see the big picture. This is a historic defeat for Blair. Under capitalism we rarely win outright victories. But anything that radically undermines the authority of the government opens up a power vaccum that the organised collective will of ordinary people might fill.
The Sun hates it. The BBC hates it. Blair hates it.
This sounds like a victory. This looks like a victory. This is a victory.

Observer.
Do you think i will be safe on Oxford Street this Shopmas?

So don't go letting your dupes off this holiday season lads as it will prove that Twilight is tinfoil and that Blair was right to ask for 90 days. did blair only need 28? After all any sick grunt can render the most resistive mind in about 20 days so that's an extra 8 days to queue.

The black ops can start in earnest in the new year and joe public will beg for even more 'emergency powers'

"The black ops can start in earnest in the new year and joe public will beg for even more 'emergency powers'"

Yeah, Al Qaeda don't exist; neither did the Mujhadeen in Afghanistan; neither did the IRA... They have all been invented by the Architect of Matrix or something.

In fact, the Islamic & Arabic peoples have no reason to hate us whatsoever. The idea that these "camel jockeys" could have a grievance or be able to organise terrorism is absurd.

Everyone knows these acts are being perpetrated by CIA/Mossad/MI5/6 because the Powers are scared of places like IndyMedia and the Green Party...

Parliament could not have overturned the 28 day proposal

11.11.2005 16:27

The original bill specified 3 months. The government amendment which was defeated specified 90 days. An amendment tabled by Jeremy Corbyn and Bob Marshall-Andrews to end the current 14-day detention period was not heard by the speaker. For this reason Corbyn et al were forced to vote in favour of the 28-day amendement, because if this had been defeated too then the original bill would have passed with the 3 month detention period.

90 days / 3 months

12.11.2005 00:52

"The original bill specified 3 months. The government amendment which was defeated specified 90 days."

3 months is more or less equal to 90 days. That makes no sense to me.

"An amendment tabled by Jeremy Corbyn and Bob Marshall-Andrews to end the current 14-day detention period was not heard by the speaker."

Can you explain why?

Couldn't MPs have voted against both amendments - the 90 day and ending the 14-day detention.

Terror bill defeated, how much do people really know

20.11.2005 10:33

Dear people,
I do agree that there has been a small victory here, but I am not sure if this is only a case of winning a battle, but losing a war. I am not a journalist, just a person trying to figure my way around the maze of media. I am trying to find out where can a simplton read the bill which was passed, or the suggested one the failed to pass, in full. not a single newspaper even tried to give extended quotes from the bill, I am wondering how much is actually in the bill, Is it only the 90 days, 28 without trial ? can anyone help ?
I just suspect that behind every media debate usually is a hidden agenda, something to hide. Is it a non-sensible to ask for complete transparency of the bills suggested in parliament ?
