New noborders forum set up

transmitter | 17.11.2005 18:36 | Migration

With a tightening of migratin policies in the UK, the slogan "no one is illegal" is gaining momentum [ manifesto]. Wide alliances of have demonstrated together in the course of this year, and noborder groups have been set up in several places in the UK.

A new noborders forum caters for people and groups who are of the opinion that "no one is illegal!" [ manifesto].

An open no one is illegal mailing list carries announcements for demos or interventions in the UK and sometimes calls or reports from international noborder events. It includes information about migration policies, their impacts and resistance against them.

NO borders? No brains!

18.11.2005 15:47

I say, in good faith, i find the idea of no borders absurd. I believe in no borders if and only if there is more or less equal wealth in all parts of the world, or in the same region such as the EU. I do not believe in open borders as firstly, the effect of such a policy would be mass migration from asia and africa into europe. This would probably lead to a far right fascist type party being elected with mass support. furthermore, like it or not, racism and race feeling is a real emotion, and it is not simply an invention of fascism or capitalism. It exists among all groups, including coloured groups. I mean, arabs in north africa as far more racist towards black africans than most white europeans. I do not think the mass of european people want more non europeans in europe. However much we talk about workers solidarity, it does not exist except in left wing journals. Furthermore, i do not see how mass immigration would help asia and africa and the third world. Surely, the best thing to do is to fix the problem in the third world, not let all the people with skills from the third world come to europe. For those without skill, they will come to europe only to become a social problem, living off the dole, dealing crugs, prostitution etc. I believe in controlled immigration, yes, on non racist grounds, but no borders seems like madness to me. I say all this in good faith and i hope any replies are also said in good faith and not an attempt to shout me down.
