Solidarity needed in France Monsanto win damages against Confederatione Paysanne

Confederatione Paysanne (press release translated) | 29.11.2005 14:51

Monsanto are having better fortunes in France . Confederatione Paysanne whose spokesman you may remember is Jose Bové is now facing another prison sentence and the Confederatione have been ordered to pay damages of 195,000 euros for pilling up a plot of GMOs in 1998 . 18,000 euros has already been taken from their account. A solidarity fund has been set using a different account

Monsanto is trying to reduce to silence the Confederatione Paysanne (small farmers union)to recover 196,000 euros (£150,000) in damages and interests due for the destruction of plots of GMOs at Monbequi in 1998 . Monsanto is looking to reduce our union to silence . Since 1997 Confederation Paysanne has been opposing transnationals of agro chemicals and seeds . Monsanto is one of the market leaders . We refuse firmly and resolutely the use of OGM in agriculture which has lead us on many occasions with others to us to oppose this multinational which wants only to impose its domination and increase its profits . The Confederation Paysanne will not let itself be intimidated . Already all those who refuse OGM in the name of the rights of citizens to have healthy food and biodiversity . In the name of farmers and the autonomy and in the name of consumers food of quality must mobilise and continue to support the Confederatione Paysanne and their partners against the impossible coexistence of non :OGM and OGM and against the financial repression destined to the company which wants to gag us . The result of the referendum of the 27th of November 2005 is a moratorium of five years and show the determination of citizens to protect their environment and their food . Today in France such a moratorium is more than ever indispensable to debate democratically the question of OGMs like the demand of the communal declaration “Genetically Modified Organisms” already signed by a dozen organisations ;
