Iraq Opinion Poll: Look Past The Hype!

Mr Spoon | 12.12.2005 11:48

Re. latest opinion poll from Iraq, now being frantically hyped by the armchair imperialists as another new dawn - but if you drill down into the detail:

"However, this finding is balanced by the results of the very first question, which asks about the state of the country, not the state of the individual.

And here the picture is gloomier. Fifty-three percent say the situation is bad and 44% that it is good. The country is split.

A similar division emerges from the question about the US-led invasion.

Some 50% said it was wrong and 47% said it was right, compared with 39% and 49% respectively in the last poll - so support for the invasion has gone down.

And the occupation troops are unpopular (65% are opposed to them, though again with regional variations) with much greater favour being given to indigenous Iraqi security forces."

100 per cent of the Kurds think the war was right!

12.12.2005 14:25

100 per cent of the Iraqi Kurds think that the war was right though! You also ignore the fact that mass graves were discovered in Iraq containing up to 300,000 massacred Iraqi opponants of the Saddam regime. Iraq is most definitely much better off now the evil, cruel, murderous regime of Saddam Hussein is gone. Iraqis now no long have to live in fear of being massacred or arrested without trial and tortured to death. Today Iraq is a free open and democratic country. Parliamentary elections in Iraq also begin this week on December the 15th.

"100 per cent of the Iraqi Kurds think that the war was right though!"

Spoke to them all, have you? I've only spoken to one, who I work with. She's against the war and the occupation - and *her* parents had to flee Saddam's Iraq after taking up arms against the dictator! Whaddaya think of that?

"Iraqis now no long have to live in fear of being massacred or arrested without trial and tortured to death."

Given all the recent revelations of torture and the ongoing massacres and violence throughout occupied Iraq, I can only assume this is a Moron's idea of a joke.

Apologists are scumbags

100 per cent of the Iraqi Kurds think the rightwing troll should come visit Iraq! Better still, why not move there, it's lovely! He also ignores the fact that Iraqs jails are torturing just like when Saddam was in charge! Iraq is most definitely much worse off now the evil, cruel, murderous puppet regime of George Bush's toadies has replaced Saddam! Iraqis still have to live in fear of being massacred or arrested without trial and tortured to death! Today Iraq is an even less free, less open and less democratic country than ever before! Parliamentary elections in Iraq also begin this week on December the 15th, so lots more innocent people will be killed, and then Bush and Blair can start pinning victory medals on each other!

100 per cent of the Iraqi Kurds think that the war was right"

No, they really don't. US generals have testified that Kurds make up a sizeable portion of the Iraqi Resistance Movement.

"You also ignore the fact that mass graves were discovered in Iraq containing up to 300,000 massacred Iraqi opponants of the Saddam regime."

Where? Support that empty allegation. I'm not saying he wasn't a bad guy, but in ignoring International Law, lying to its own citizens, especially those it sent to fight their preconceived war, slaughtering Iraqis without compunction or apology, plundering Iraq's treasury, using banned WMD, and widely torturing innocent people, the Fascists you support have lost any moral ground above the man. They are vastly worse than any bogeyman you can spit onto this site.

And don't forget, Saddam was their guy. Don't forget that most of the "Iran-Contra" criminals now occupy seats of power within this Regime in DC.

"Iraq is most definitely much better off now the evil, cruel, murderous regime of Saddam Hussein is gone."

No, because now there is a much wealthier, powerful evil, cruel, murderous regime in Iraq, the guys who showed Saddam how it was done. Only this time, they also loathe Arabs and Muslims.

"Iraqis now no long have to live in fear of being massacred or arrested without trial and tortured to death."

Sure they do. Where have you been ... ?

"Today Iraq is a free open and democratic country."

Riiight. And I'm the Tooth Faery!

The point is that the Criminals who LIED before the war, are telling more lies now, in order to hide the truth from the people paying for this war.

Why Are You Even Here?

Why havent most Iraqis boycotted the elections then???

13.12.2005 16:40

If the Iraqi people are so against what America and Britain have done in Iraq then why have so many of them participated in every Iraqi election so far? How come most of them totally reject the so called "resistance" who by the way have murdered many more times more Iraqi civilians than the coalition have accidently done!

Also why do you lot support a "resistance" which kidnaps and murders western aid workers like Margret Hassan and Ken Bigley, and even bombs Red Cross and UN instalations, as well as police stations, schools, and mosques full of worshippers! You simply don't know what is happening in Iraq. Itb is the so called "resistance" ie colded blooded mass murdering terrorist insurgents who are to blame for all the chaos in Iraq NOT the coalition troops who are risking life and limb to bring democracy and freedom to the Iraqi people!!!!

Why dont you speak to the allied troops in Iraq here and find out for yourself!

Look, Mr. "Voice of Reason" (or "Concerned", as you're calling yourself today), you're mixing up your arguments again.
Of course the Iraqi want elections. They wanted them back when we were arming and supporting Saddam too:
 http://ice.citizenlab.org/archives/images/rumsfeld-saddam.jpg
Did you give a shit about what the Iraqis wanted back then? No.

And they also want our troops out, and for us to take our sticky mitts off their oil.
Can we have some evidence please for your bizarre claim that "100 per cent of the Kurds think the war was right!"?

Otherwise you're just trolling again, and the Indymedia admins should just dump your comments like they used to.

And who gives a flying fuck what a bunch of shell-shocked yank squaddies and their fanboys in the US think about the war. Go talk to some Iraqis, if you want to know what the Iraqis want.

Mike

Hmmm ... You Didn't Respond To My Points

14.12.2005 06:30

"If the Iraqi people are so against what America and Britain have done in Iraq then why have so many of them participated in every Iraqi election so far?"

Because, if you've been paying attention to the reporting from the region, they believed - and were told - that the creation of an Iraqi Government would send the illegal foreign aggressors packing. Alas, they were lied to, and as Seymour Hersh has reported in the New Yorker, the US used a portion of the BILLIONS it stole from the Iraqi People in order to bribe officials, and install another pliant Puppet Regime.

"How come most of them totally reject the so called "resistance"

They haven't, and your tired, transparent comment about them is a bald-faced LIE. You don't "accidentally" slaughter civilians during an invasion. You simply don't care. And after Fallujah and the leaked al Jazeera memos, you cannot claim that the US hasn;t consciously targeted civilians. After the exposure of the Basra SAS False Flag Op, and reports of Iraqis having their cars wired with explosives in secured US checkpoints, much of the reporting of Resistance civilian murders are in serious doubt. More likely, these were Covert Ops, like those in Vietnam, designed to turn the people against its Resistance Movement.

Fortunately, the Iraqis are not stupid, and recognize this Old Colonial Trick ...

"Also why do you lot support a "resistance" which kidnaps and murders western aid workers like Margret Hassan and Ken Bigley"

We don't know that they were responsible. Again, these could be Covert Ops, designed to demonize the Resistance. The groups within the Resistance which are previously known, which have kidnapped people always release their hostages, who report fair treatment, and a certain attachment to, and understanding if, their captors.

How can you support illegal war, wanton destruction and slaughter, torture, targeting of civilians and journalists, use of banned WMD, and Fascism ... ?

"and even bombs ..."

Again, we don't know who was responsible, and the people telling us what we should think are known LIARS and War Criminals. Hardly credible sources of information.

"Why dont you speak to the allied troops in Iraq here and find out for yourself!"

I do. All the time. I've received e-mail correspondences with troops in Iraq and Kuwait, and I've met personally with several Deserters.

I don't simply repeat Talking Points from the Extremists who created this conflict out of thin air, based upon LIES and a racist Ideology, as you do.

Don't Fall for the PsyOps

Hmmmm ... You Didn't Respond To My Points

14.12.2005 18:36

"If the Iraqi people are so against what America and Britain have done in Iraq then why have so many of them participated in every Iraqi election so far?"

They were under the impression - because they were LIED to - that creating an Iraqi Government would send the Foreign Aggressors packing. They held up their marked fingers, not as a sign of support for the Invaders, as it was spun here at home by proven LIARS, but as a show of defiance. Unfortunately, they were under the impression that the US/UK were interested in "democracy", the cover for Oil Interests, Geostrategic Concerns, and the Protection/Instruction of Israel.

As Seymour Hersh has reported in the New Yorker, the US have spent a portion of the BILLIONS they've stolen from Iraqis in order to bribe officials and create a new, pliant, Puppet Regime.

"How come most of them totally reject the so called "resistance""

They don't, despite the Covert False Flags intended to turn the Iraqi People against its Resistance Movement.

That other part of this line is a bald-faced LIE.

"Also why do you lot support a "resistance""

I support it because, according to the International Laws created by men with the Terror of World War fresh in mind, to spare us from that Madness again, the Resistance are the "Good Guys", sadly legitimized by US/UK Aggression.

Why do you support Fascist Extremists who knowingly violated those laws for their own selfish intents, have slaughtered innocent men, women, and children, without compunction or apology, have eounded up and tortured innocent people, have used banned WMD, have targeted civilians and civilian journalists in order to ptoect their LIES to their own citizens ... ? Why?

"which kidnaps and murders western aid workers like Margret Hassan and Ken Bigley"

We still do not know who did that, and the circumstances are suspicious and unproven/investigated. In every instance where a previously-known group was known to be responsible, the hostages were always released, reported good treatment, and also a certain connection to, understanding of, their captors.

"and even bombs ..."

After the exposure of the Basra SAS False Flag Operation, and consistent and credible reporting of Iraqis having their cars wired with explosives while at US checkpoints, the stories woven by the LIARS in DC/No.10 are in serious doubt.

Most likely, these were Covert Operations, intended to demonize the Resistance, and divide Iraqis. It's what the US/UK Governments refer to as "Divide & Rule", which they openly discussed a full year before their invasion began, as proven by the leaked document, "Iraq: Options Paper", written by the UK Overseas & Defense Secretariat Cabinet Office.

Luckily, the Iraqis aren't stupid, and recognize this Old Colonial Trick.

"Why dont you speak to the allied troops in Iraq here and find out for yourself!"

I have, and do. I've carried on several correspondences with soldiers in Iraq and Kuwait, and I've met personally with several Deserters. They speak much more openly when their Minders are not present, and not suprisingly, a lot of what they say echoes directly what GI's in Vietnam said.

"What If America Cuts And Runs?"

14.12.2005 21:32

"All Iraqi Kurds want an independent Kurdistan. They do not feel Iraqi. They've effectively had more than a decade of autonomy, thanks to the UN-imposed no-fly zone; they want nothing to do with the chaos that is Iraq. Kurdish independence is inevitable—and positive. (Few peoples on earth deserve a state more than the Kurds.) For the moment the Kurdish government in the north is officially participating in the federalist plan—but the Kurds are preparing for secession."

Danny

The No-Fly Zone, and the 13-year bombing campaign carried out by the US/UK were not a part of any UN Resolution, and were in fact, illegal.

US Generals have testified that Iraqi Kurds make up a substantial portion of the Iraqi Resistance. What are you saying with your excerpt, and where is it from?

If the US leaves, then the war ends. The Iraqis are liberated from a Foreign Aggressor.

If Justice were a prevailing thing in our world, the criminals who started it would be tried at The Hague, and the BILLIONS they've profited from their illegal war would have to be repaid to the Iraqi People, to help them rebuild.
