Predictably BBC Berks accused the activists of being protesters with the following coverage:
“Seven people have been charged with obstructing the highway after a protest outside the headquarters of Britain's nuclear weapons programme.
About 60 people protested at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), Berkshire, in an attempt to delay building work on a new £100m laser laboratory.
Project Orion will house a powerful laser that replicates the physical conditions of a nuclear reaction.
The seven were bailed to return before Newbury magistrates on 9 February.
They are: Zina Zelter, 32, of Bartholomew Street, Leicestershire; Emma Bateman, 38, of Blaby South, Wigston, Leicestershire; Pat Arrowsmith, 76, of Middle Lane, London; Marlene Yeo, 74, of Burton-on-the Wolds, Leicestershire; Neelem Gupta, 25, of Balmore Road, London; Irene Willis, 60, of Canvey Island, Essex; Robert Nicholls, 33, of Lynthorpe Road, Stamford Hill, London.
A 26-year-old man was cautioned.
The building works at AWE are the first stage of a three-year £1bn redevelopment of the site.
The upgrade was approved by a West Berkshire Council planning committee last week.”
