Death to the Glorifiers

THEyelloMATTER | 17.02.2006 01:39 | London

After allowing the protests to escalate last week and then the UK media bombarding us with the crack dealer dressed as a suicide bomber, President Tony has managed to get his 'glorification of terrorism' legislation through.

Yet another vague law that will serve to yet further alienate large sections of society. So don't be wearing an Islamic scarf or a Che T-Shirt because maybe you'll be glorifying terrorism...and maybe this article is too and maybe you shouldn't read it because that will be glorification too. Oh and if you do own one of those old skool waistcoats with all the pockets that everyone used to rock back in the eighties, just leave it in the black bag at the bottom of your wardrobe. And forget about buying your son the Batman utility belt for his birthday because that is probably a no no too. Before long local cop shops will be chocka block with 'glorifiers' of terrorism of all ages, colours and creeds.

How about 'glorification of war', war being the western word for terrorism. Are we going to pass any laws on that, probably not. That would mean banning all of hollywood's Vietnam blockbusters and maybe we wouldn't be able to don our poppies. And what would happen to all the army surplus stores, we would have to buy our army fatigues late at night on the black market: "yes bruv can I get a 34". No we won't stop glorifying war because it is what our country has been founded on, the rape, pillage and conquest of others. Now the latest blockbuster already a major motion picture that premiered on CNN and Fox News 'Bush does Blair' continues a long tradition of war.

Terrorism is like crack cocaine and 'War' has become like alcohol. Alcohol kills more people worldwide than crack cocaine but unless you are a full on alcoholic nobody is gonna have a go at you for having a few drinks. On the other hand they'll hate you for smoking crack, in fact they'll probably take a pretty strong dislike to you for even knowing someone who smokes the rock. WIthout a doubt London Fashion Week saw a whole host of Supermodels tanked up on bolli and crystaaaaaaal, but they won't make it into the papers...but if they gave Kate their mirror to borrow as she headed to the toilet?

The media used to be the voice of the people, a medium through which ordinary people could criticise the powers that be. Now it is indeed the fourth power and a means for govenments to sway public opinion and get their laws passed. Shit if only they hadn't messed up with Jean Charles de Menezes then your son with the BatBelt would be facing a three month detention without charge. We were alarmed by the 100th British Soldier dead...have they kept a scorecard of how many out of THIRTY THOUSAND Iraqis our troops have killed? But then who cares if a crackhead dies?

Unfortunately what we have to look forward to is a future that will see future generations of children playing 'Arabs and Americans', crying "I wanna be the Christians this time, I'm always the Muslims". It sounds amusing, but this is what we're creating in the minds of our population - HATRED. The fact that we care little about the THIRTY THOUSAND brown folk killed in Iraq, ONE MILLION brown folk killed in Rwanda, FIVE HUNDRED brown folk being tortured in Guantanamo Bay and THOUSANDS more in secret prisons around the world, HUNDREDS left to die in New Orleans, ONE brown man killed at Stockwell station, ONE brown boy killed in London and another in Liverpool is proof that our minds have been conditioned not to really care about foreigners dying whilst being outraged should one of our own lose their life. Second class is maybe too nice a term!

The whole 'glorification of terrorism' carry on MUST BE a joke, because our leaders continue to glorify their own terrorism. G.W has been recognised as a terrorist by the World Court, so surely his and President Tony's continual glorification of their actions every day in the global mass media is in direct violation of this latest legislation. These actions are terrorism on a mass scale - how many innocent women and children are amongst the THIRTY THOUSAND Iraqis? And you watch the News of the World video showing British Troops abusing Iraqi teenagers with the original sound, you'll hear sheer delight on the part of whoever is filming as he watches the troops give these young men a good kicking. If we support the victims here or those tortured in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo are we then supporters of terrorism? Will bus stops soon have posters with the slogan 'grass on a glorifier'? We cannot continue to support such atrocious human rights violation which are being carried out in our names! If being anti-war, anti torture, anti-Bush or anti-Blair amounts to glorification of terrorism how many of us will wear that cap with pride?
