Kick Out the Great British Circus!

Martin Lacey | 17.02.2006 21:57 | Animal Liberation

The Great British Circus are in Hull from Wednesday 1st March to Sunday 12th.

The Great British Circus are in Hull from Wednesday 1st March to Sunday
12th. They are one of the only seven remaining circuses in the UK still
using animals in acts, which include Lions, Tigers, Horses, Ponies,

to Jolly's last time they were around, banned from two places because of
pressure!

why does greyhound racing (see bottom of article) escape targetting?

18.02.2006 02:05

Let's read to the bottom of this article... notice the GREYHOUND bit?

So greyhound racing (and pedigree dog breeding) is OK, but animal acts in a circus are bad??? How exactly does this work? I would imagine that there is an infinitely greater chance of people respecting animals more after seeing them in a circus, than after betting on them in a race. So what exactly is going on here?

I don't approve of animals being mistreated, and applaud anyone who works to ensure circus animals are well treated during and AFTER their working life. However, specific provable allegations apart, there would be a million more pressing items on an animal welfare list ahead of this, INCLUDING the horrific abuse of pedigree dog breeding.

I DO KNOW that Mao and his genocidal thugs banned dogs and cats as pets, and that the re-introduction of pets into China is gradually making that society more humane. Why is it that I have the greatest suspicion that SOME (certainly not all) of those behind the targeting of the circus would love to see pets banned.

Force the circus to look after its animals. Force them to ensure a happy life for them after retirement. After these goals are achieved, save you energies for closing down the animal torture facilities that Blair uses to develop his new chemical and biological weapons, and for inflating the value of drug companies that serve NOT to save lives, but to make a tiny elite rich beyond most people's wildest dreams. Make dog breeding illegal, when such breeding has ANY detrimental effect on the health of the animal. Target the thousands of ways in which farming and slaughter of animals causes un-needed suffering.

why does rabbit owning miss your target

18.02.2006 11:39

I loved going to the circus when i was little, the opportunity to see animinals larger than my rabbit was so much fun. Animanals are for human beings entertainment and lets keep that way. If you really care about animals , fight climate change, or globalisation, the capitalist system is the main threat to all animals on this earth encluding little fluffy ones.

Now I must go, looking for to my steak i just cooked up.

I think that comment says a lot about you, twilight. Quick to jump in and condemn others while you remain a keyboard worrier, and not do even the most basic research. You are not interested in contributing anything useful otherwise you would have avoided being so sneering.

For your information there are a number of very active greyhound campaigns, the prominent ones being Greyhound Action, Greyhound Rescue and the League Against Cruel Sports.

Greyhound Action is well supported in the grassroots animal rights movement and there have been a considerable number of actions and successes in campaignging against greyhound stadiums. Many people campaignging on a local level against circuses do likewise against greyhound stadiums.

There is also this concept called strategy - it might be of interest to look it up. It is about effective use of resources and planning in order to gain ones aims. It provides the framework for tactical targetting. Just because people are not doing what you think they should be doing (oooh, forgot, it's cheap shots that you care about) doesnt mean they dont know what they are doing.

Anthprocentric furfilling circus

This is an upstanding anthprocentric institution that furfills the master species mentality and preaches(like zoo's) the merits of domination.
