Olmert, Bush agree on Iran deadline/Israel Lobby Study

Various | 26.05.2006 06:06 | Repression | World

Memo to President Bush: any wild chance that you just might run this by Congress before you start WWIII? I just have to wonder how soon we'll be hearing that, unfortunately, diplomacy on Iran has failed. Any one taking any bets as to when the 'timetable for diplomacy' will be up? In a week? 4 weeks? Maybe next Tuesday?

Olmert, Bush agree on Iran deadline

Ynet learns that Bush told Olmert US time limit for action to stop Iran's nuclear program fits Israel's own timetable, but American diplomats make it clear diplomacy will be given chance

(Of course, "action to stop Iran's nuclear program" is actually just a feigned "justification" for an Act of Aggression Israel and its agents within the US/PNAC Regime have planned for years.)

Yitzhak Benhorin

(WASHINGTON) US President George W. Bush agreed that plans for American intervention to halt Iran's nuclear program are congruent with a timetable discussed with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert during talks in Washington.

(Why, that's a convenient coincidence ...)

According to Israeli intelligence assessments Iran will acquire the necessary nuclear technology to build a nuclear weapon within a year, Olmert said during the talks.

(Of course, these were the same people instrumental to feeding bogus "intelligence" to their AIPAC spies in the Pentagon's OSP before the illegal war against Iraq - and when pressed, cannot actually back this up with evidence ...)

For third time in history, Israeli PM addresses US Congress; Olmert says Israel would be 'willing partner in peace' with Palestinians, but would draw its own borders in West Bank should it conclude it has no one to talk with.

(But of course, he doesn't mention that it is Israel/Zionism, who's broken off talks with the Palestinians, because Zionists don't Negotiate nor Compromise.)

The prime minister said Israel fears diplomatic foot-dragging at the United Nations, where the United States has faced Russian and Chinese opposition to push for tough sanctions against Iran should it continue uranium enrichment in defiance of the international community.

("Foot-dragging" really means legal proceedings, and demonds for the evidence to back up Israel/PNAC's empty allegations. And the "international community" has been blackballed into again responding to a "crisis" entirely of America/Israel's making ... Nothing in the world, however, can legitimize the planned Aggression.)

"I am very, very, very satisfied," Olmert told Israeli reports after talks with Bush.

Bush told Olmert he will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, but US officials have cast doubt over Washington's capability to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear technology.

Under paragraph 7 of the United Nations charter, the US will ask the Security Council to impose economic and military sanctions on Iran should it refuse to halt uranium enrichment activities.

Should Russia use its veto power to block a US-backed UN resolution for imposing sanctions on Iran, Washington will circumvent the Security Council by luring allied countries to impose an economic and military embargo on Tehran.

(In essence, placing itself above International Law ...)

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that Iranian officials are using intermediaries to convey to Washington their readiness to talk directly to US officials.

(But since the entire issue is irrelevant, as it's really just another excuse for a long-planned War, US officials aren't talking, because they really could care less ...)

Meanwhile, officials from France, Britain and Germany will hold talks with US Under Secretary for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns to discuss a compromise EU draft resolution against Iran.

(But of course, sadly, they're only responding to White House Talking Points, ignoring the reality of this situation entirely.)

The International Atomic Energy Agency said Wednesday that Iran signaled its readiness to halt uranium enrichment activities in compliance with a European deal to supply Tehran with a light-water nuclear reactor in return for its compliance with international demands.

(Even though the IAEA has also stated that Iran is well within its rights under the NPT, has done nothing wrong, and does not have a nuclear program involving weaponization ...)

In the recent study “The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy", two distinguished political science professors charge that the United States has willingly set aside its own security and that of many of its allies in order to advance the interests of Israel. In addition the study accuses the pro-Israeli lobby, particularly AIPAC of manipulating the U.S. media, policing academia and silencing critics of Israel by labeling them as anti-Semitic. Media critic Michael Massing joins us to talk about the fallout from the study. [includes rush transcript]

U-turn by White House as it blocks direct talks with Iran

· Hardening of Bush policy rebuffs Tehran's approach
· Move appears to surprise US ambassador to Iraq

Julian Borger in Washington and Ewen MacAskill
Thursday May 25, 2006
The Guardian

The White House yesterday ruled out previously authorised direct talks between Tehran and the US ambassador in Baghdad, which were to have focused on the situation in Iraq. The move marks a hardening of the Bush administration's position, despite pressure from the international community to enter into direct dialogue with Iran.
