Ongoing Body Worlds 3 Protest

Carol Dickinson via sam | 11.06.2006 11:00 | Analysis | Repression | Social Struggles | World

In Houston Texas Carol has been to the Town Hall she has stood outside the Museum and she has protested for what she believes is right. And now other people have joined her.

: Protesting corpses being exhibited
: Protesting corpses being exhibited

Where: Houstons Museum of Natural Science One Herman Circle Drive Houston, TX
What: Protesting corpses being exhibited.

The completely sick ghoulish exhibit of over 200 dead people in strange positions...everything from a dead woman lying on her side displayed like a sexpot with her womb cut open to see her dead eight-month-old baby inside, isv t5hat horrific or what?

There are dead men riding dead horses holding their own brain just for effect, can you believe it?.

Are we suppose to laugh or cry here. I think protest! ... against the German Gunther von Hagen's Nazi mentality freak show...

For the piddily price of a movie and dinner you can view dead people 200 of them... cut up and sliced like a Christmas Turkey! Hey people didn't you know that the desensitization of a society will soon be its down fall., which is a worry cos noones advertising it on TV. Walmart are selling everything made in China and Von Hagan is selling Chinese bodies.

However he doesnt show chinese bodies in Body worlds shows, he just sells them to any buyer that wants to join his industry, and the more the merrier which is making him a fortune.

When a society loses it's memory of what is right and what is wrong... eventually it will implode upon itself because their is no longer an absolute truth to rely upon.

This exhibit is "screamingly wrong!" Don't Be lulled by intellectual mish mash to believe otherwise... else we will become like pre-WWII holocaust mentality.

Something as seemingly harmless as this exhibit can have an after effect that is immeasurable. Corpses belong 6 feet under or if donated in medical labs for teaching and research... but NOT on display like this this is a joke.

It makes me sick to my stomach every time I think about it. Those poor people... they were people... they deserve respect... not to be made fun of.

Von Hagan cannot keep up the charade as he is useing the donated bodies to hide the trade in Chinese executed political prisoners. His efforts support the industry by pretending that all of these types of exhibitions are noble.

The chinese government executes 3,400 young men a year, they all are only children to one child families and at the very least should be returned to their grieving parents. Instead they go on a world tour and thier parents get the bill for the lethal injection.

The protest will happen Every Saturday between 9-9 till Sept 4 until the show moves on. No permit is needed. You can even stand on Museum property so long as doors are not blocked. Also no sound system or speakers... but all else is fine. Already checked with city clerks office. Bring sign if you like. All are very very welcome.

Why: Because it is the right thing to do my friends that’s all, because its sick the Body Worlds 3 Protest is not ok. "It's sick!"

Comments

I can't believe that this is even permissible--wait, yes i can. Our society has no respect for the living, the dead are no more protected. I am not in TX but I just wanted to offer up encouragement. You are doing the right thing by making people aware and being an advocate for action.

From Carol

Thank you Shayna for your comment. I really appreciated it. Thank you. It's nice to know I'm not the only one out there... thinking this exhibit is highly disrespectful of the dead. I did protested 2 Saturdays ago and want to go next Sat. too... but I couldn't go this Sat... but I did speak before the Houston City Council about this whole insane corpse trafficking freak show business this last Wednesday.

Apparently the Museum is a privately owned company and the cities hands were basically tied I think.... but that is why laws need to be passed prohibiting such exhibits. I believe that the laws need to be passed to forbid such exhibits so if a private company did consider it.. like a museum... then it would be against the law thus preventing such freak shows from popping up every where. If you read this call your local museum if they are showing one of these freak shows (they are in a few cities around the world) and tell them that you do not approve of the exhibit and would not be attending.

Also go with a group of people... talk to the government officials in your area that could actually make the laws to put a stop to it all together. Eventually several of us will be going to speak before the Congress of the United States... since I don't think the city has law making abitlities that would be strong enough to stop this type of dead people freak show.

If anyone out there would be interested in joining our efforts to put an end to this industry, at least here in the states, then email me at  carol.dickinson@earthlink.net.

Before going to Congress we will be mailing out petitions to those who will sign it and send it back... so that when we go we will have a bag load hopefully... at least enough to get their attention. We haven't set a date but I feel it will be soon. Please let me know if you would like to sign the petition. We will send you one with a blank envelope inclosed with a stamp already on the envelope to make it easy for you ... to just sign and pop it right back to us. Thank you!

Dix says

There is a fine line between Art and Life. When an artist is this close to the dividing line, it causes this type of a public debate. This is an artist's dream...to be on that fine line and thus cause a 'stir.' Art imitates Life. In this case, you are saying Life imitates Art, which is culturally taboo. But is it life imitating art or art imitating life? Hmmmm.....just what the artist wants you to ask yourself. If the artist can get you to think about this, then this exhibit has done its job: to get you to respond either negatively or positively to the exhibit. That is art.....or is it? LOL!

Have you no respect for the advancement of science and medicine. The work they do with "disgusting dead bodies" as they "violate and disrespect them" is what keeps you, your friends and family alive through breakthrough research. I went to the premier of the exhibit with my husband who is a doctor and found it fascinating to learn about what really goes on in our bodies, how we process things, and what terrible condition we treat our bodies. I think it is eye opening, especially when you consider the rate that people are killing themselves with cigarettes and obesity. Consider that! I'm sorry to say that you sound simple-minded in your review of this phenominal and intricate scientific exhibit. Perhaps you should have stayed with the "Princess Diana" exhibit.

Finally have you and your "well-informed" highly proactive respondent ever stopped to consider that perhaps these people DONATED THEIR BODIES TO SCIENCE!!! THat they don't consider it disrespectful to donate their bodies to the advancement of the human race and it's research. Please don't limit other citizens from learning because you get the creepy-crawlies, just DON'T GO TO IT...pretty simple. One other fun-fact. THere are actually more bodies donated to science than they have medical student to cut them up. I think the majority wins on that one...that a progressive attitude leaves us all better off.

I'm betting you don't believe in evolution either.

Dear Dixintex and Holly,

Dix , Gunther tried the Art approuch before he started calling himself Dr or Prof Hagan and started calling it educational, you have fallen for the hype, please get up.

I challange you both to do some well spent time and research into where many of these bodies came from. Did you know that the plastic body factories (2) are in Dalian China only 200 miles South of Shenyang City the location of a famous and notorious Hospital called the "Multi-Organ Transplant Center".

A great deal of evidence indicates that the China International Transplantation Network Assistance Center (CITNAC), located in Shenyang City, is closely connected to the organ translplant atrocities at Sujiatun and also the source of corpses purchases by the creator of Body Worlds 3. Dalian is in this same Province of China... highly volital and known for their treatment of prisoners... some thrown in jail for mere tax evasion or polital differences... but warranting execution?!!!... the Chinese government thinks so.

Here is proof...The so-called 1984 law that "validates that providing organs is an act supported by the government" is precisely what was recently mentioned in a veteran military doctor's testimony from Shenyang City,

"This practice was established by a legal document that the Chinese Communist Party's Central Military Committee established as early as 1962. This practice continues to this day. In otherwords and in simple laymen terms...the Multi-Organ Transplant Center of Shenyang is trying to sell organs from live bodies of Chinese through its CITNAC! and highly suspected of selling bodies to Gunther Von Hagens.

Please read these very clear and concise websites about the organ and body trafficking in China... especially in that Province... especially connected to the Creator of Body Worlds 3 shown here in Houston.

Within the website below is a picture of that Notorious Hospital were Von Hagens probably gets most if not all of his specimens, bodies not needed after organs were harvested illegally from the Chinese prison camps (learn about those horrible things too in the websites below)... but supported by the Chinese government to do so.

So after reading all these articles even a Testimony from an actual Chinese Doctor who fled China after getting sick of their immoral body and organ trafficking... gives his actual testimony in front of the United States Congress. (  http://www.harpers.org/HabeasCorpus.html) and 11 other articles (not written by me but others)... I don't think you would be so quick to jump on the side of "art" or "science". It is neither... it about mans inhumanity to man. Think about it. The location of these body factories... sort of gives it away... don't ya think?

Why doesn't Von Hagen work in Germany were he is from... because he was basically kicked out of Germany (it reminded Germany to much of the Holocaust and lampshades made from the skin of innocent Jewish men, women and children in the 40's)... the websites below tell you MUCH more!

Please Read and be converted to compassion! If you want art... use paint... not people. If you want science... go to medical school and learn from properly obtained and consented cadavers. There is no fine line here. This exhibit is non-compassionate, highly immoral and out of place.

I challange you. Don't talk before you know the truth. And here is the truth.... (this first website testimony is quite clear)

"It's sick!"

Any nation cruel like China

Any nation cruel like China who take beating hearts from anyone don't deserve any show without proof of the identity of those they seek to display.

Beating, beating, beating beating,

A timely look at china's human rights!
by Incomprehensible

UK transplant patients go to China for organs

The British Transplantation Society said that "an accumulating body of evidence suggests that the organs of executed prisoners are being removed for transplantation without the prior consent of either the prisoner or their family".

Thousands of organs are thought to be involved in the lucrative trade, it said. Transplant centres, patients, and the Chinese authorities and judiciary could all be implicated in a breach of human rights.

"The British Transplantation Society condemns unreservedly any activity that transgresses an individual's human rights or involves the coercion of an individual to become an organ donor," said Stephen Wigmore, chairman of its ethics committee. "The alleged use of organs from executed prisoners without consent is considered a breach of human rights and is an unacceptable practice. A reported close relationship between transplant units and the authorities regulating executions and the availability of organs is unethical."

Tracking Down the Mysterious Organ Sources of China's Shenyang City's Multi-Organ Transplant Center

At present, we know the following cruel facts: most organs for transplants in China come from prisoners, and a large number of them have been removed from prisoners when their hearts were still beating. Organs taken this way may be called "live organs." Referring back to our previous question: In Shenyang City, especially Shenyang Multi-Organ Transplant Center, are there organs belonging to this kind of "live organs"? Take kidney transplant as an example. In China, patients usually have to wait for six months to a year for a kidney transplant, but in CITNAC of the Multi-Organ Transplant Center, patients only have to wait for a week to a month for kidney transplant, and the kidneys are not any inferior than those live ones sold by the poor people.

The Amazing (freak show) human body exhibition
It is hard these days to get upset about any one subject, because there are so many things happening both locally and overseas that just should not be happening. Prioritising or ignoring has become an individual choice. The list is quite endless, but for everyone crime against humanity must come close to the top of the list.

As some of you may have guessed, I am a hobby writer and not a fully qualified accredited journalist paid by Rupert Murdoch, and it would appear Ms Hamburg of Body Worlds has seen right through any thinly veiled pretence.

You don't know what you are talking about

I am a student and as a feild trip I went to go see this exibit. This exhibit shows people about their bodies. People DONATE their bodies to this exhibit for science. It alows people to see the human body without walls or barriers. The corpes are placed in positions that show normal activity for humans. Yes, there are some with a fetus and its mother but she donated her body and her baby's body. If you would actually see the exhibit you would see that it is a wonderful learning exprence.

You need to stop presenting one-sided research; it's very ignorant of you. Also, the way you have confused Body Worlds and BODIES...The Exhibition is astounding. Get your facts straight before you launch a laughable protest.

Oh, in case you haven't heard, the Houston Museum of Natural Science will be hosting Body Worlds again in one week. Looks like your little protest didn't work.
