The YMCA Charity Duck Race

Victoria Stapleton | 28.06.2006 14:12 | Culture | Social Struggles | World

buzz of excitement surrounds July 15th 2006 as the first YMCA Charity Duck Race is pencilled in to take place at St Georges Quay, Lancaster. Some might say you have to be ‘quackers’ to attend but behind this fun filled event a very serious message is relayed:
Each year hundreds of young people aged between sixteen and eighteen are out on to the streets with nowhere to go and no-one to turn to. The YMCA is determined to take action and with your support we CAN make a change

This exhilarating race is aiming to raise £35,000 via a mammoth amount of duck filled fun. The day begins at 1pm with attractions to delight and excite –

· See Tony Green's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and get your very own suveniour photograph

· View the spectacular Hovercraft Display

· Meet Britain’s Biggest Rubber Duck fanatic and view their amazing collection!

· Take part in our fabulous array of games including 'Hook a Duck'.

· Let your taste buds be dazzled by the delicious deli provided by the prestigious Quite Simply Food restaurant.

· Buy a commemorative duck from our rubber duck stall
· Feast your eyes on the thousands of ducks just waiting for your sponsorship!

· Plus entertainment galore!

· A superb day out for the entire family.

Newly appointed Deputy Mayor Joyce Pritchard will arrive in style via hovercraft to officially start the race with our loyal duck mascot in tow.

The event has already captured the imagination of several businesses including Bay Radio from which well-known radio DJ Phil Holmes will be commentating throughout the day.
Sponsoring a duck is easy for just £2.00 you will receive an adoption certificate and the chance to win an exclusive luxury cruise for two from Southampton to Paris! We have already received sponsors from as far away as the United States via our website! No one can resist these cute little ducks.

This event is not just for the public: local schools are encouraged to bring a little bit of ducky charm to their classroom by sponsoring one of our 30cm ducks for just £10. The school is given a flag to decorate and asked to gain as much sponsorship as possible for their duck friend With the possibility of winning our fabulous first prize - a brand new computer system for both the first school duck to cross the line and the school duck with most sponsorship – who wouldn’t want to enter!?!

Businesses can join in the fun by sponsoring a duck for £250. A business duck is 30cm in size and can be decorated in any direction your imagination can take you. There is even a ‘Best Dressed Duck’ competition for those taking part in the event with a stunning engraved silver trophy to be won – so the more original the design the higher the chance of winning and the more publicity the winning business will receive! We have already received some very interesting entries and it looks set to be a tough competition. Advertising for businesses will be provided throughout the race itself via our commentator. Once sponsored a complimentary link shall be added to our website along with a photograph of the business and their duck. As a little extra gift any business who sponsors a duck receives two VIP passes to our exclusive barbeque taking place at the Three Mariners throughout the day. At the end of the race the winning business will be presented with the coveted engraved ‘Golden Duck’ Trophy.

Sponsoring a duck is easy whether you are a member of the public, school or business. You can sponsor a duck online via our website http://www.dontducktheissue, via our ebay store or simply call the YMCA and sponsor a duck over the phone Tel. 01524 32737. Ducks will also be available for sponsorship on the day of the race.

Sponsored by The Property Search Group. Supported by Rehab and Fat Media. Race prize donated by Cruise Connections and Royal Carribean International.

Don't give the YMCA Asylum Profiteers a penny!

28.06.2006 16:03

Would this be the same YMCA who were planning to help introduce the Asylum Slavery scheme or the same YMCA who profit from NASS accomodation deals for Asylum Seekers?

Profiting from Asylum Seekers and their misery aint good nor is it pretty!
