Stop the bombing of Gaza and illegal detentions

Friday 30th June 4pm to 6pm
Supporters of Palestine will hold a protest against the collective punishment of Palestinians in Gaza

Assemble outside Waterstones on New Street in Birmingham City Centre.

Bring Palestinian flags

The Palestine Solidarity Campaign and its supporters in the UK have been getting frantic emails from Palestinians in Gaza. These have almost stopped since much of the Gaza Strip is now without electricity following Israel’s bombing of the main power plant.

The already appalling living conditions have worsened dramatically, with little food or fuel in the shops. People are terrified to leave their homes after the Israeli army dropped leaflets telling residents to avoid moving in the area because of military activity.

The overnight shelling and sonic booms are a clear example of the collective punishment Israel is using to terrorise Palestinians.

Arabic news channels show the havoc being wrought by Israeli tanks and bulldozers and the Palestinian people living in subhuman conditions attempting to put out fires when the water supplies have already been all but cut off. Yet mainstream media continues to report with a pro-Israeli bias almost justifying Israel’s incursion into Gaza to rescue one Israeli soldier taken hostage on Sunday 25th June.

There are currently 300 Palestinian children (under 18's) and 100 Palestinian women being held hostage in Israeli prisons. They are among over 9,000 Palestinians being held, many of whom are in administrative detention - i.e. without trial or charges.

While Palestinians are accused of ‘abductions’ and kidnaps’, Israel ‘arrested’ and ‘detained’ more than 60 Palestinian officials in nightly raids across the West Bank.

Betty Hunter of PSC said: “Our Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett has condemned the Palestinian attack on the Israeli military outpost and sent condolences to Israel saying she is ‘disturbed to learn of this serious terrorist attack‘ against Israeli soldiers. Why has she not offered her condolences for over 50 Palestinians who have been killed in the West Bank and Gaza since the beginning of this month? When will she condemn Israel’s continued shelling and now re-invasion of Gaza? Our government must be clear about its position on Israeli war crimes.”

Palestine will be free!
