Iraq war public inquiry - judicial review victory

MFAW | 26.07.2006 11:40 | Anti-militarism | World

Military families have won a legal breakthrough in our bid for a full public inquiry into why the UK entered the conflict. Today the Court of Appeal ruled we are entitled to apply for a judicial review of the government's refusal to hold an independent inquiry.

Message to the Troops in Iraq From Rose Gentle

Rose appeals for serving soldiers and their families to sign our Troops Home petition and to get in contact with her directly
• Phone Rose on 07951 767 530 or
• Email:  rose@mfaw.org.uk

[The video of Roses appeal can be downloaded or streamed from MFAW.org.uk or here  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bHGJvaelFU , but this transcript is only on Indymedia so please repost it with a link to the video on other sites, especially military forums.]

"This is just a message to the troops that are out in Iraq just to let you know that Military Families and myself are actually supporting you and that we want you home. We are not against you, we are actually against this war, because we believe Tony Blair lied to us and that is why my son was killed in Basra in 2004. I don't want you to come home the way Gordon came home and that's why I am doing this.

A lot of serving soldiers have now came forward and spoke to me about it and they don't know why they are there. They say now that its a war that they can't win and it's a place they don't know who to trust. They think the police are their friends and sometimes they are their enemies.

Well we know you have been sent over to Iraq with a lack of equipment because Gordon didn't have the right equipment either. The equipment Gordon needed was actually sitting in a storeroom.
If our government cares about you then why aren't you well-equipped ? That's the first thing they should have done, equipped you right before you went out there.

We really want you home safe and we have a petition going, and if you feel you want to sign it the petition is on the Military Families website.
Don't be frightened to contact me because it won't go any further. I'll come and meet you myself and come and talk with you and tgo through things that I know, and you can tell me what you know. I'll be there for your families if they feel the need to talk to someone as well. And if you ever think when you've came home and you don't want to go back, don't think you are deserting your boys that you've served with because you really aren't. You know what is right and we know what is right and this war is definitely wrong"
