Saturday on the August Bank Holiday. Starting on Deangate at 2pm, the parade including 200 floats, snaked it's way round the city centre, finishing with an event at Princess Street.

On the way, the parade passed thousand of people waving and cheering and the Mayor doing a bit of judging. Not sure what the pizes were. The God Squad turned out, telling everybody they were evil, and a contingent from the right-wing, hanging about being all intimidatory. Personally, I know which group were having more fun.

Plenty of exhibits and loads of lovely people. Letting it all hang out. Next to Afro-Caribbean Carnivals, I think these events are the most colourful and exuberant that we have in this country.

The biggest cheers of the crowd, went to the public service workers. The NHS, Fire Service and Ambulance Services and the Gay Police Association in full dress uniforms, don't they look smart. And now the Probation and Prison Services had floats. The Royal Air Force fielded a team together with the Army for the first time last year.

Some of us are a little distressed that although we're all in favour of liberty at work, the idea of recruitment to military services under the cover of such a celebration, is not right. Earlier last year, people at Brighton Pride did protest at these developments. [see:  http://indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/southcoast/2005/08/320582.html].

All this on top of the rampant commercialisation that is now so obviously represented there.

Lesbian and Gay Staff Affiliation (LAGSA) Greater Manchester Police

02.09.2006 12:15

Just to clarify any misunderstanding, your reference to the presence of members of the police service and the Gay Police Association (GPA) is not entirely correct. The representative support network for LGBT members of the police service in Greater Manchester Police is called Lesbian and Gay Staff Affiliation (LAGSA), they are not members of GPA. However there were staff from other police services around the UK, who may be members of GPA but were invited to Manchester Pride by LAGSA

Reclaim the streets

02.09.2006 15:50

This march should not be held in a busy city centre on a Saturday afternoon. It inconveniences the vast majority of the population who just want to get about on the roads that they pay for and pay to use. I was stuck in traffic for over an hour because of the road closures. I'm heterosexual, and I'm not proud of the fact, nor am I ashamed. I see no reason why a gay person should derive pride or shame from being gay. I don't care if some gay people are so proud of their sexuality to the point of needing to dress up in costumes and have a parade, but I'd be grateful if such people would leave the streets free for their intended purpose, and demonstrate their pride in a less selfish manner. How about a march in Heaton Park or along the wide, deserted Saturday or Sunday roads in Trafford Park? Both venues would enable all the marchers and the people who want to watch the march to do so while inconveniencing many fewer people than the current arrangements do.

more correctly, the police gay association should be called the Staff Lesbian And Gay Group or SLAGG for short!

Gay equality

I know three people who tell me they are gay. They all own cars and I expect they dislike needless traffic jams.

Thought some people might find this of interest, it's an article about the exploitation of gay teenagers by big business/corporate gay media

Truth about Manchester Pride

10.07.2008 19:42

Ticket Scandals, 2008 - This guy's been blogging about Manchester Pride, Manchester Mardi Gras etc for a few years now and every year the facts get more and more shocking.  http://www.g7uk.com/manchester-pride-investigation.shtml - It's great people are at last starting to take note of the corrupt management and lies spewing out of Manchester City Council and the Gay Village Business Association!
