Diabetes Epidemic in Europe

US Radiation Wars Thought To Be Cause

by Leuren Moret
Livermore Nuclear Weapons Lab Whistleblower

(Berkeley, CA) The data is coming in country by country confirming my discovery of a global epidemic of diabetes which began with Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 and has continued to increase during atmospheric testing, nuclear power plant operations, and very sharply since depleted uranium was introduced in 1991.

Govt. data from Japan, the US, India, and now Europe confirm large increases in diabetes since 1991, in most cases, the highest increases since 1945.

Attached is a series of maps of diabetes from the New York Times article on diabetes January 9, 2006. The global diabetes map is clearly a fallout map, basically from atmospheric testing.

The US map shows the highest diabetes increases in the Gulf States (Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi) where the DU is carried by the Westerlies across the Atlantic and rained out along the Gulf Coast. Puerto Rico has the highest diabetes rates in the US – 25% of the population has diabetes, and it is 8 miles downwind from Vieques Island where the US military tested DU for decades.

The New York City map confirms what the Radiation and Public Health Project has known for ten years – and confirmed in 7 states – that the US govt. is shipping the most radioactive contaminated milk into black communities and poor communities – Harlem, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Dr. Ernest Sternglass presented our findings at the Hiroshima Genocide Conference which he and I attended in March 2006.

We can expect the use of depleted uranium weaponry, by Israel in the recent aggression against Lebanon, will continue to add to the increase in diabetes in the region and globally.

Few people realize that thousands of pounds of depleted uranium are used in nuclear weapons, packed around the small plutonium cores to reflect the fast neutrons back into the core for more efficient fissioning. The depleted uranium in nuclear bombs is called "tamping" which I found described in the US Army Pamphlet by Glasstone on nuclear weapons.

The major radioactive pollutant from atmospheric testing was uranium. There is an established link in the scientific literature between uranium and diabetes. Diabetes has also been linked to radiation exposure in Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Chernobyl survivors. Leuren

PLEASE GO TO THIS WEBSITE AND DISCOVER FOR YOURSELVES THE SERIOUS ISSUE OF INCREASING DIABETES LEVELS IN EU

Chernobyl fallout and depleted uranium used in Iraq, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Lebanon are the main causes.  http://www.fend.org/news.html "The Federation of European Nurses in Diabetes (FEND) supports unreservedly this pertinent initiative of IDF in seeking to establish a UN Resolution on diabetes. FEND is proud to be a supporting organization to this campaign."

"The pandemic of diabetes with its costly economic and social implications demands of every nation and leader their support of IDF in bringing this campaign to a successful conclusion in the service of mankind."

International Diabetes Federation launches 'Unite for Diabetes' campaign to win government support for UN Resolution Brussels/Washington D.C., 10 June 2006
The 'Unite for Diabetes' campaign was launched by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in Washington today.

The campaign aims to highlight the alarming rise of diabetes worldwide and to encourage government support for a United Nations Resolution on diabetes. IDF is leading the global diabetes community in a concerted effort to secure the Resolution on or around World Diabetes Day (November 14) 2007.

Diabetes is a leading cause of death in Europe – over 25 million people in the EU are affected by this chronic disease which can often lead to serious and costly complications such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and amputation.

Furthermore, 50 percent of people with diabetes are thought to be living with the condition unaware and undiagnosed. It is estimated that the number of people affected by diabetes could rise by up to 16 percent by 2025.

John Bowis MEP, Chair of the European Parliament's Diabetes Working Group, who lives with diabetes himself: "The Austrian Presidency of the EU has given diabetes a great deal of attention since January but with the support of MEPs today, I hope this resolution will make all European Ministers and European Commissioners understand the seriousness of the epidemic."

FEND ATHENS DECLARATION 10 September 2005

The pandemic of Diabetes Mellitus presents a major public health challenge for all European national health care systems. It is estimated that 30 million European citizens have diabetes today within the European Union, with a prevalence of 7.5% in member states.

In addition a further 50% of EU citizens are estimated to have this incurable condition but are currently unaware. This indicates a pernicious low level of awareness and demonstrates a serious and unacceptable deficiency in diagnosis of high risk groups and a paucity of national prevention public health policies within the EU.

Diabetes continues to be a leading cause of premature death, a 3-4 times higher risk of cardio-vascular disease, a 20 fold higher risk of lower limb amputation, the commonest cause of renal failure and blindness. In recent years the emergence of type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents is a new and serious health challenge to the youth of Europe, their families and society. It is further estimated that pre-diabetes affects 100 million people of whom 50% will develop diabetes within the next 5 years.

Leuren Moret is a geoscientist and international radiation specialist. By mapping disease she has been able to expose the full impact of radiation exposure on the global community from atmospheric testing, nuclear power plants and depleted uranium weapons. By using geoscience as a tool to understanding radiation, she has established the link between the impact of radiation on the health of the environment and global public health.
