A more constructive criticism: what is the need to bring religion and 'spirituality' into what is a political issue? there is none, and i do not think that these religions and spiritualities are going to help with the real problems we have to tackle. ( i do not wish to deny people their religion or whatever, but why do we need it in politics???) Furthermore, a lot of this 'spirituality' is fake, it is a kind of new age feel good ideology that does not recognise the need for critical thinking around these issues. There is a crisis with the environment, of this there is no doubt, but buddhism, islam, christianity etc cannot help us. furthermore, this kind of thing alienates many people who want to work and believe in these issues. Also, many of the believers in these religions, that is the 'orthodoxy' would repudiate this use of their teachings for our politics. We could enter into an argument with them and say " look, catholic church, sunni islam, theravada buddhism, you have misunderstood yr own teachings, if you really looked at them you would find it is the same as we are saying". but, this is hard to say, and a fairly worthless line of argument to go into. in other words, these issues stand and fall on their own feet, we should not need to bring these religious ideas to 'support' them. this is a retrograde step for the movement to go down.
