PEACE AND CONFLICT WEEK
Four days of talks, films, music and food promoting peace in the Middle East, at Sussex University
MON 23RD OCTOBER
6-8pm, A5 lecture theatre: Jews for Justice, War on Want and Zaytoun
(Palestinian olive oil importers) present the documentary THE IRON
WALL, followed by discussion.
TUES 24TH
2-3pm, E406: screening of the acclaimed documentary ‘Visit Palestine’.
6-8pm, C133): Sussex lecturers Martin Shaw (International Relations) and Mick Johnson (Politics) discuss the history of Israel and Palestine and related issue. Chaired by Sussex lecturer (Philosophy) Andrew Chitty.
WED 25TH
3:30-6pm, meet in Library Sq. - Palestine Day of Action at EDO. Palestine focused noise demonstration outside Brighton's arms manufacturer, EDO MBM, who proudly sell to the Israeli Air Force. Bring something loud to bang!
4-6pm, John Maynard Smith lecture theatre: screening of the documentary
film 'I know I'm Not Alone', a musicians (Michael Franti) journey through war in the
Middle East.
7pm-late, The Hothouse: cross-cultural night of food, films and music, including live klezmer and DJs spinning Arabic beats. £3 entry, profits to go to charities working for peace in the Middle East.
THURS 26TH
4-6pm, Debating Chamber, Falmer House: screening of the empowering 'Women in Black', originally an organization of Israeli women building for peace, now an international movement. Also, 'This Wall Must Fall', about a protest camp built by Israeli's and Palestinians to combat a wall over twice the size of the Berlin Wall from encircling the West Bank.
6-8pm, A1 lecture theatre: Activism and the Conflict - open discussion
on experiences of the struggle and how to get involved, including
representatives from the Radical Activist Network, Brighton Palestine
Solidarity Campaign, Smash EDO, delegates to this
summer’s Queeruption Tel Aviv and others.
