i have heard that the us military hardware including jeeps (Gps..general personnel carriers) were dismantled, motorbikes harley -davidsons, and also aircraft engines these were all mass produced and assembled and stored at burtonwood for the latter part of the war..but never used or needed.once peace was achieved the goods already shipped to britain on lend leases system and marshall aid plan to save capitlaism in place they began to start up briish industry to compete with us and europe.. so after they sold off surplus transport lorries for about a£1 each to drivers and food rations and other measures slacked off..the decision to bury or destroy surplus goods was taken ..
