Poor life of rastafarians in ultra-conservative Poland

RasFufu!!! | 16.11.2006 21:19 | World

Being a Rastaman in Poland is risky- there are cases of people being sentenced to two years in prison for possessing 0,2 grams of weed. If You smoke for recreational purposes, or because you can "reason" better and it helps You to think- You are in danger. If You are Rastafarian, people would treat You as a drug-addict. The prejudices are overwhelming the debate and are continuously fostered by the one-sided conservative media.

I would like to observe that religious dissidents in Poland are continuously in hazard of being arrested. I am Rastafarian, and since the Catholics took over the power, many young people have emigrated to other countries. In my estimation at least 1/3 of these young people that emigrated were marihuana smokers. I have lost all my friends except for one, and he is also emigrating at the end of this month. It is my personal tragedy because all the friends from my town who are Rastafarian or are not Catholics will be gone. Only one other friend will stay, but he is a conservative Catholic and has a completely different lifestyle.

I think that one of the reasons for the mass emigration is the fact that there are difficulties for marihuana smokers in Poland. Catholics that are now in power treat marihuana as a part of something that is non-Catholic, and as they want to prevent people from conversion to other faiths, they put a very strict ban on marihuana thinking that it is a part of different spirituality.

I was recently visiting the Notting Hill Carnival in London, which is a carnival of dancing, chanting and also a bit of marihuana smoking. It is currently the largest arts festival in Europe, and hundreds of thousands of people attend it. I observed that lots of police was everywhere, but their task was to care for the easy flow of crowds of people (as nearly million or so people attended this festival, many streets jammed because they were too many people there) rather than figtting with marihuana smokers. And in Poland it is not like that, I have heard that they really put people to prison for smoking marihuana, and I heard that police recently started even to search young people if they have marihuana by them. It is now much more difficult to buy marihuana. And no one is organizing carnivals…

In my opinion Catholic fundamentalists are against marihuana because of their religion. They try to force other people to do the same, without realizing that other faiths are marihuana-oriented. So was the case even with early judeochristianity, and from there, and also from Hinduism, marihuana entered Rastafari. Kanehbosm, the bible word for cannabis, is used frequently in the Old Testament. Cannabis was the dominant and only sacrament. The anointment procedure used for kings, priests and prophets was based on the anointing oil containing huge amounts of THC from cannabis. Many Rastas believe, that Moses, who discovered an angel of the Lord in flames of fire from within a bush, spoke about smoking marihuana in a way as Nomadic tribes used to do it- by throwing weed into the fire and inhaling the smoke.

I follow all the dietary commandments of Nazarene wow (Book of Numbers, Chapter 6). I am strictly vegan, sometimes even fruitarian. I am not even drinking normal tea because I know it is unhealthy. It is more dangerous than marihuana and medical reports (such as WHO report) support it. I drink only fruit tea, as the Rasta people used to do. After coming for holidays to Poland from Britain, where I live, my health horribly deteriorated. I was doing the same things that my friends were doing- drinking beer and smoking cigarettes, trying to find out how people live normally in Poland if there is no weed. I simply wanted to be open to other people and test what they do.

It proved a disaster- cigarettes and beer makes people much more unhelalthy, and stop people from thinking. Weed makes people think and removes the wool that fills your brain and protects You from seeing things more clearly- it is the way how it works. Tobacco and alcohol simply make people weaker and weaker. Besides, they are highly addictive, whereas it is proven that weed does not make You physically addicted, and “heavy use and complaints of inability to stop are unusual” [1]. I have tested it. People in Poland live in a very unhealthy way, mostly because of the tobacco and alcohol. I have heard that in Poland tobacco consume is the most widespread in Europe. The consumption of alcohol is also excessive- I have never in my life seen people consuming so much of alcohol as in Poland.
