On the evening of the 24th Feb two Shell petrol stations in north London were blockaded by activists who are concerned over Shell’s aggressive business practices and poor human rights record.

For more details of Shells record see:

The non-violent actions took place at Shell stations on Holloway Road and Upper Street in north London. No arrests were made. However some motorist became aggressive, made threats and insulted blockaders. The police did not over react and one officer made the comment … “I suppose we can look this up on the usual website can we?” Here it is officers.

After the last action at the station on Holloway Road one very friendly black cab driver congratulated blockaders and asked for publicity cards to hand out to his passangers. Thank for your support mate.

Thanks for your report. For future reference I thought you should know that if you precede all the links that you include with the full http:// then they will become hot links and readers of your text will be whisked straight to those sites when they click on them. As it is, less savvy internet users may not know about having to copy and paste the partial link addresses into their browser's address bar and may assume that the sites are dead or that the forces of darkness have blocked them or similar paranoid stuff. Hope that helps.

Protesters putting peoples safety at risk.

25.01.2007 18:59

In the first photo on the Hell at Shell petrol Stations: London blockade article, it is obvious that the protestors have moved the cones/fence placed around the tanker to ensure the publics safety whilst it was discharging.

I wonder whether the stupid arses would be so willing to be photographed had there been an accident and the whole place gone off.

A stupid act with over 20,000 litres of flammable fuel about.

A worried tanker driver.

To worried tanker driver

I was there as a registered journalist to cover the on-going protests against Shell and I understand your comments and concerns for safety, but I have to say from witnessing the blockade there were no cones or fence in front or behind the tanker.

So, the issue of safety concerns here is not against the protestors but with the running of that Shell garage or the tanker driver.

I have been covering these actions for a while and have yet to see protestors endangering themselves or others in any way. As for this protest the only danger came from vicious and violent civilians whose aggression was so extreme that it questions whether they should be behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.
