Smoking Ban

Publican | 15.02.2007 14:00

Will be policed by little Hitlers

The smoking ban that comes into force on July 1st will be policed by snoops able to film and photograph anyone in enclosed premises smoking. With powers to issue on the spot fines. It won't take long befor these snoops are well known.I will be barring them from my premises,as is my right.I also intend to put a brazier in the beer garden that will be fueled with tabbaco.

Car park?

I hope you don't have a car park which encourages motorists to drink and drive.

the ban cannot come a day too soon

I find it incredible that people can have been allowed to inflict harm on others for so long with impunity. I could not begin to count the number of times that I, as a non smoker have been forced to leave smoky pubs because my eyes were streaming or my nostrils searing or I start coughing uncontrollably because of your smoke. Or what do you think it is like for me to put my clothes on the next day only to find them still stinking of your smoke? Supposing I pissed all over your clothes and hair? How would you feel about the smell of that? Of course every smoker will be in complete denial that this is how their filthy selfish habit can affect others. In the same way they are also in complete denial about the effects it can have on their own health. I wish I could show you the 2 toddlers I knew - orphaned when both their parents died just 2 years apart from lung cancer.

suffering for years

Tell it to Ford

or Vauxhall or the rest of the oil polluters who are pumping out more carcinogens than all of the smokers put together since smoking started. They pump out more in one day than smokers together have in the history of tabbaco.

drinking and driving is something idiots manage on their own.But we smokers have the right to smoke without nanny's telling us what to do.If you don't like it don't come in.

no need for paid snoops

This law will enpower weak otherwise powerless people , giving them a reason for being in there otherwise sterile , bubble of an excuse for a life. Grass on a dole cheat , snitch on a smoker and make sure you eat your 5 fruit and veggies everyday.
Do as you are told and have a long and boring life.
By the way , smoking is not illegal.
You cant have it both ways. Name me something else that raises so much revenue through taxation , can cause you to be arrested or fined for doing it , and will be policed for free.
I think they call it the slippery slope.
Fall for it if you want , its much easier isnt it.

Another way of looking at it

Publican says - "We smokers have the right to smoke without nanny's telling us what to do.If you don't like it don't come in."

You could equally well say that we non-smokers have the right to breathe clean air. And if you don't like it don't come in. Stay at home and smoke instead.

Whether smoking is allowed or not inconveniences one group or the other. Up until now non-smokers have had to put up with breathing smoke or staying at home. You are right that we do not have to go into pubs and that is mostly what I have chosen up until now. But now it is exactly the same case but the other way round - smokers now have to put up with not smoking or stay at home. You don't have to go in pubs either. You've had it your way for decades but now we as a society have decided that the balance has shifted. How is this more unfair than what non-smokers have had to accept until now?

"How is this more unfair than what non-smokers have had to accept until now?" couldn't agree with you more, especially as my non smoking nature doesn't forcefully effect anyone in the vicinity of me, I can't believe how selfish some smokers are. Smoking is such a selfish act, when they smoke, the others around them smoke too, whether they like it (and it's disgusting effects) or not. If you ask me, the sooner, the better, at least this way all the people who have decided to accelerate their own deaths are together with other people who have chosen to do the same.
