How to Identify Censorship in Creative Commons Media

ChrisM | 16.02.2007 19:56 | Zapatista

*For the record- I have never experienced censorship policy on the UK
Kollectives Openwire*.

There is a policy of censorship on the Irish Indymedia openwire which
is based in fear of female voice {it took five years to get women moderators
with basic privlege} . it took five years to get a gender and sexuality section.

Join Womyn's Indymedia- go on, ye know you want to....
Join Womyn's Indymedia- go on, ye know you want to....

I am a writer of articles, poetry and feminist polemic who has been censored/
hidden/ deleted on 15 separate occassions from the Indy.ie Newswire.

I am not the only one.
There is a policy amongst the male editors to hide/delete/censor
anything which is 'outside' of their experience.

One of the things which is outside their experience is ' being a woman',
or being a woman who writes without a mask- and really gets up their noses.

I am not sure how one asks that an indymedia should be disaffilated
for acting against the ideology of open-newswire, or indeed for having
the same editorial team since it's inception in the 26 counties.

The idea of an anti-patriarchy section is in Irish parlance:
'completely beyond the pale'.
The idea of a Northern Irish Indymedia has not happened.
A 'womyn's' indymedia is in process.

Thank you UK Kollectives for operating an open newswire
which reflects diversity of opinion.

Any girls who would like to join or take part in feminist outreach
in the IMC Global Network can volunteer as feminist Outreach
or tech volunteers through the global site.

There is a womyn's indymedia discussion list available.
[I shall add the link as a comment].
There are also womyn at indymedia chat spaces.
and a colective project to bring womyn's voices into IMC.

* The Womyn's Indymedia Project is a creation of a space wherin
women who use and develop tech have a room to develop
ideas and images pertinent to our experience. Its quite common
for tech to be male-dominated and subject to little cliques.

How about even a smidgen of truth Chris

17.02.2007 14:53

Indymedia Ireland have editorial guidelines and if you are in breach of them your post gets removed. I have seen all your hidden posts and they are clearly in breach of the guidelines. Also have you ever read what you write? Its mainly gibberish that nobody understands. When anybody disagree's with you you call them sexist regardless, of what gender they are. You are not a writer, you are a gibberish ranter and you should just set up a blogg rather than ruin the indymedia project.

the never ending chrism story

17.02.2007 17:45

she even attacked a female editor the other week - maybe she was not womyn enough for chris

4. two tier bureaucratic structures wherin male dominance of political ideology is played out by encouraging and rewarding women who abuse other female activists and their partners.

Links to women's indymedia

The links to the womyn@ indymedia lists are:-

This is a womyn only space.

IMC also welcomes women to work in feminist outreach and tech.

You can volunteer at the global site.

as to my record on indy.ie:
put c murray/chris murray in the search engine- the undeleted stories go back
a year, the deletions and trolling began after bringing up the issue of a two-tier
collective with limited power for women writers.
This followed a campaign to highlight the non-rotation of editors within
the irish collective. the lack of women within the collective. the lack of a gender,
anti-patriarchy or anti-repression section.

As to dealinjg with limited narrow viewpoints in relation to globalisation
and irish paternalism- I would question the above comments in that context.

I joined the womyn@indymedia section in June 2006 and work in admin.

Bye

17.02.2007 20:04

Chris believes that anybody who doesn't agree with her is anti women, including women. She refuses to obey the editorial guidelines and writes shit articles that don't make any sense. She is a pain in the arse as anybody who is subscribed to the email lists or anybody who has had a disagreement with her can testify. Bye Chris anybody unfortunate enough to get involved in any campaign or indy effort with you I feel sorry for

Would love to see the back of ya

Murray is lying again

17.02.2007 20:12

> non-rotation of editors within the irish collective.

> the lack of women within the collective.

Misinformation is commonplace

18.02.2007 17:24

Misinformation about indymedia is widespread. Most indy sites experience trolling, abuse and attempts to disrupt their activities. One example is the "nessie" trolling which has been going on for years. Here is another more recent little gem:

Okay, then why was this hidden?

What are you afraid of? Do you think Brits don't go to the American Indys?

1 The fact that Israel has nuclear weapons is a fact.
2 That the Mossad knew in advance about 9-11 is a fact.
3 That some took advantage of pre-9-11 intelligence, put options, etc. is a fact.
4 That the N W O exists cannot be denied, made up of primarily neo-cons. Ever been to the “grove”?
5 The fact that governments stage false flag operations is a fact.
6 That 9-11 was the best thing that happened for Israel can not be denied.
7 That you are either part of the problem or simply another victim of the psy-ops program can not be denied.
8 That efforts to suppress this information by Indy is futile can not be denied. There are other means to inform tbe masses. Check out how many times the thing has been seen at just one place, Google video.
Cheers.
