Is this the 'democratic' future for our square?

12.03.2007 10:36

Would be very nice to see Moonbuggy play, but just wondering - will this kind of 'democratic' process be the only way for locals to use the square in the future?

What would happen if 100 uke players just turned up - 1 for each Community Protection Ogre. Could they cope?

Twaaaaaaaang!

Is this the same market square bash that is gonna have princess ann, and loads of polititians talking shite?

The market square that has banned all skaters, is driving away kids hanging out by the Lion, not to mention homeless and other "undesireables" The Market square that has cost millions of our £ that could have been spent in our communities just so the shops make more cash....

What are you doing Moonbuggy?

Slabby

hmm

I play in moonbuggy and i put up a comment earlier (which seems not to have been printed) along the lines that while its great if people want to vote for us, Im not keen to support something that is a shonky job and has a huge carbon footprint etc. I've ranted about chinese slabs as much as anyone!!! Dont quite know how we got on the list!

I also play in Moonbuggy. I don't know how we got on that list, but I am really not at all keen to do that gig. As flattering as it is that people want to vote for us - please don't!

Various members of the band have put more than their fair share of time into trying to save the planet, as well as being against things like CCTV surveillance and pound-shop-cop harassment of such dangerous threats to the community as kids on skateboards and homeless people.

To be honest, as far as I can tell (without reading the other band members' minds, and I guess our views on this do encompass varying degrees of strength), I think the new market square goes against just about everything we as a band would be happy to support.

It stands for a triumph of ultra-corporate capitalism, big brother law enforcement and blatant environmental devastation over just about everything that actually matters.

I would turn this gig down on principle, and I'm clearly not alone in that sentiment.

I'd sooner level the place and see it turned it into a REAL free space for the people of Nottingham - start by getting rid of the shops, cops, CCTV, and the council too while we're at it. Not needed, not wanted.

So please vote for someone else instead - preferably "Nobody", because a vote for Nobody is a vote for everybody!

If you want to come and support us supporting something that really matters, we're playing at the anti-fascist benefit gig this Saturday:

Lost opp?

Its a pity Moonbuggy pulled out. It might have been a chance to reclaim a bit of our space. But I respect their decision.

Nonsense

13.03.2007 23:11

There's no lost opportunity in not putting your name to something you completely disagree with on principle. What a load of liberal nonsense. Moonbuggy don't want to do it, nor should they. If you want an 'opportunity', fuck off the corporate council bash at market square and give some pennies towards the antifa benefit at the Maze on the 17th, where you'll get to see them in fine style x

Missed point

14.03.2007 09:19

I don't think my aim of trying to reclaim the market square from the corporate shysters conflicts with the antfifa benefit, in fact I'll be doing both. So please don't slag me off and name call. This all started when I saw Moonbuggy were on the BBC voting list, and I assumed thay had agreed to this, so I hoped I was being helpful. But fuck it I don't feel like its all worth the grief anymore.

Settle down Beavis!

14.03.2007 11:01

Hey everyone, chill out please!

We didn't "pull out" as such, since I don't even know how we got entered on that list in the first place - but anyway, no need for any bitching among friends!

It's nice that people wanted to vote for us, and given the number of bands on that list I don't think we'd have won the dubious "honour" anyway. (I am interested to see who gets it though, and whether they'll actually play.)

See you on Saturday for some fash-bashing fun, and no hard feelings to whoever it was that originally posted this article - glad you wanted to see us play!

Cheers!
