On Saturday 24th March the Carnival Against The Pipeline filled the quiet Welsh town of Trebanos with the sounds of samba and colourful constumes. Campaigners from all over the world joined together with locals to use the carnival to highlight their objections to the 200 mile gas pipeline being built by National Grid from Milford Haven to Gloustershire.
Campaigners are very concerned about the safety of the pipeline, the environmental destruction it will cause and the investment of huge sums of money in damaging fossil fuels instead of renewable energy. There is also lots of concern about the lack of public consulation over the pipeline. Many resisdents in Trebanos were not even aware that the pipeline was being built through their town until they woke up and saw machinery outside their windows.
