Beavis and Butthead in London jihad

More of a Pop than a Bang from so called Car Bombs.

 http://www.timworstall.typepad.com/timworstall/

It would appear that even if it had gonoe bang it wouldn't actually have gone bang but pop.
Unless we're still missing a part of the puzzle there were two major errors in the construction. There was no oxidiser. Secondly, all commercial propane tanks have valves that release the gas if it heats and thus the pressure rises. Might have got a jet of flame, might even have had a propane tank accelerating along the street on such a jet, but a big bang? Nope, just wasn't going to happen.
Yes indeed, it does look like there's one or more people out there hoping to blow people up. Fortunately, they're not, on the current evidence, competent.

 http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/06/29/more_fear_biscuits_please/

`The device could not have detonated. Not under any circumstances. You see, the terrorist wannabe clown who built it left out a crucial element: an oxidiser. The device was pure pre-teen boy fantasy.

"We'll heat up these propane cylinders with burning petrol, and they'll go off like bombs", boys the world over have remarked with glee. They don't realise that air is a poor oxidiser, and the only "explosion" they will get is when gas pressure inside the cylinders is great enough to burst them. Then the propane will ignite, and a nice fireball will blossom. A fireball, not an explosion.

Oh, the Piccadilly fireball would have blown the car's windows out, and popped its doors open, and sent various bits like mirrors and so forth into the air at velocities possibly fatal to people nearby. It would have looked really cool, that's for sure.

But an explosive event...a detonation? Not in a million years. Sorry lads: you failed car bombing 101; you did not attend a single lecture; you did not even open the textbook.

All bollocks!

The key words here are the Police description of the 'devices' as "potentially viable". And what exactly does that mean?

Here's an example: If you were to go to carphone warehouse and buy a mobile phone, and then B&Q and buy a bag of nails and then Millets and buy a propane cannister and then a shell garage and buy some petrol you now have a 'potentially viable' bomb.

In other words all these items in the same place without a single piece of wire connecting them, a single detonating device, or any reason for them to explode without being hit by an RPG is what the Police and press are describing as a car bomb. A sharpened pencil is a 'potentially viable' murder weapon. It only becomes a murder weapon if you stab someone through the eye with it.

At best these 'car bombs' are a sad hoax by some very sad amateurs. At worst they are another fuck up by the Police. Still all those headlines about bombing a nightclub on ladies night...sold a lot of papers hasnt it?

1.700 +

30.06.2007 23:27

Well, the Evening Standard and London Lite, the latest disitributed free, were saying they could have killed 1.700 people with a single gas canister - well, that was supposedly the capacity of the night club had it been full. The level of idiocy is just unbelievable. Are we getting brain washed to the cerebellum? Who can believe such crap? Are the brain washed morons the next pawn in the war agaisnt terror?

Fireballs

If it had been 'successful', the "Piccadily Fireball" would have looked great on the front pages of the world's newspapers and in full HD colour with surround Sound Dolby for the telly.

...and with very little collateral or material damage.

Perhaps Bevis and Butthead (or anyone else who could benefit from such actions) weren't that stupid after all?
