Seth Gabel is a Hollywood success story -- Hollywood, Fla., and Hollywood, Calif.

Gabel, who grew up in Broward's Hollywood and went to the University School of Nova, has a role in the ABC series Dirty Sexy Money, one of the more promising new dramas of the upcoming season. His busy resume includes guest shots on Law & Order: SVU, CSI, Sex and the City and a well received arc on Nip/Tuck, but the ABC series, whose plot lives up to the alluring title, is his first regular series role.

It's a meaty part with breakout potential. His character, Jeremy Darling, is the bad boy of a fabulously wealthy New York family. Series star Peter Krause, as the family attorney, is constantly being summoned to get Jeremy out of tough spots.

'This role is a real treat,' Gabel said. 'When I read the script it just blew me away. The scope is fantastic.'

Despite Jeremy's irresponsible antics, he's the kind of character the audience is likely to root for. 'He tends to be a bad boy but that's only because he doesn't know what else to do,' Gabel said. 'He's living in the shadow of his father (played by Donald Sutherland), who's a protective force in his life. He's pressuring my character to go into fields that he really has no interest in. Jeremy doesn't feel he's getting enough approval from his father but it never really comes. So he's called a bad boy and a failure.'

Landing the role is a classic example of one door closing and another opening. Gabel answered an audition call for Eli Stone, a midseason series being produced by Greg Berlanti of Brothers & Sisters and Dawson's Creek.

'That went very well but I wasn't exactly right for the role. But Greg (who also is an executive producer of Dirty Sexy Money) remembered me and recommended me for this role.'

So rather than being on a series that is waiting its turn to get on the schedule, Gabel's on a highly regarded show, whose spot is secure and might be around for years. It's a great Hollywood story -- Florida and California.
