Sheffstock taking people for a ride

Angry Hippy | 02.08.2007 08:09 | Sheffield

Since the second Sheffstock organizers Eryl and Eleanor have been making a lot of profit from the people who attended Sheffstock and the fund raising events associated with it.

The section below was taken from the NTA website as you may know the NTA helped organize the very first Sheffstock.

"hi, we did an outdoor free party in sheffield saturday night with three rigs, thanks to everyone who came and made it a great party!!
this party was not connected with shefstock, although we know the organisers and have taken rigs there before. just as we were about to do a collection to cover our costs one of the shefstock organisors appeared with a donation tub... she had turned up at our party and collected money from the folk by all three sound systems.... people gave her cash as it was a great party and they thought they were helping the sound systems cover costs. what the fuck is going on? shefstock is a pay event that generates a profit and how rude is hi jacking a free party to collect cash for an unrelated event? we're gutted! shefield soundsystems beware!!!
dave, innercitytechno"

Whilst Sheffstock is a good idea the people behind it are not good people with one goal in mind and that is to make as much money as possible

AS IF! I haven't a vehical or any drugs!

09.08.2007 14:21

I would like to appoloigise for having put a couple of peoples noses out of joint by taking the bucket round at the party.
This was something of a misunderstanding as I thought it had been cleared with everyone before hand but there were a couple of people who hadn't been asked.
I would like to reassure everyone that it was made clear to everyone putting money in, excactly what the money was for.
We raised a grand total of £18, £8 of which came from 2 people sat by their car who said they particularly wanted to support Shefstock. £10 from everyone else. (Not going to buy us a very big vehicle!).
I have been told that all costs of putting on the party have been covered. The £18 raised is being put towards the cost of getting tickets printed.
Eryl has also offered to pay £18 out of his own money to Dave from Inner City Techno (the one who has got all upset about it) to make up for the misunderstanding.
I hope this clears things up for people.

unfortunately my original post was cencored, so ill keep it short and sweet, on average ive lost a £1000 a year putting events on , im still in the same positition!!! im realy angry that people like you mr angry hippy have associated myself and eleanor(who have worked our arses off) of taking profits and spending them on drugs and vehicles........what profits mate????? my suggestion to you is if you have any fears about where shefstocks money is going........stop winging and get involved!!!! This year, we have set up a committee, which includes a treasurer, all of our finances will be published on the internet for all to see. We will be totaly transpararent....unlike many other festivals i can mention, like Shamania for instance....where is the £60 they are charging for tickets going? fortunately people like you are in a minority and vast amount of other people who are involved or are just coming are happy. Here is my phone number if anyone has any queries about finances ...07833695916 peace n love

so true

02.08.2007 10:48

angry hippy,
a lot of them are at it,if they are not taking the naive public's money they are taking lottery or charitable funding and putting it in their own pockets.they are self serving fakes middle class self rightious hypocrites their agenda is me me me self self self. they proclaim to be acting for the good of the wider community but the wider community feels and is excluded. the gentle trusting souls who innocently hand their cash over just don't realise what is going on.you will never get a real honest response from them all you will get is some sort of purple hazy flowery smokescreen like "whats your problem man ! you are spoiling the vibe ! stop making waves ! you are the one with the problem !" they prey on the common good in most people cos they know the vast majority of their target audience will not ask questions or become suspicious.
good for you submitting this posting.

whats all the fuss

15.08.2007 18:49

i don't understand what all the fuss is about. if money is being made from sheffstock whats the problem, there are loads more things in the world to worry about. i went last year and i'm going this year and for a small amount of £5 i had a wicked time and i really don't think anyone has been ripped off. i know the organisers and i know that they are doing sheffstock for the right reasons so that everyone can have a party, whats wrong with that, and if they make a bit of money good for them as they're the ones who have put the effort in to make in happen.

The real criticism of Sheffstock!

17.08.2007 12:27

Eleanor and Eryl are on to a good thing with Sheffstock, it's a succesful festival but has many problems:-

- Dodgy, dirty and badly kept marquess - put up without any kind of insurance, ie no Public Liability Insurance and the much of the equipment is not PAT tested. This is a huge risk to safety!

- Serious lack of security, the security consists of crusties, they aren't gonna defend themselves against local gangs! Trust me!

- No professional medical help on site! Considering the lack of security and uninsured equipment combined with all the dodgy drugs and junkies running around, I'd consider this a necessity!

- People are allowed to bring their dogs which in turn shit all over the police.

- Serious lack of toilets which get cleaned about once a day but then it is a festival.

My answer to all this is that they should charge £45 just like all the other ethical festivals around the country, sell the tickets well in advance and put the money towards making the festival bigger, better and most importantly safer and paying everyone who is involved with helping.

Eleanor and Eryl are both good event organisers, they could make this a part of their living instead of living up to unworkable and unreliable hippy ideals that have only resulted in bad luck (for Eryl in particualar.) They need to sort their lives out and make this festival what it has every potential to be, the only successful festival in Sheffield and South Yorkshire for that matter.

It's be very nice if everything could be free but lets face it, the majority of people that go to Sheffstock are working, they're not all skint and most people spend over £100 on drugs. The real money is made from drug dealers and we're talking £1000's here and as I've said before all the other festivals like Sheffstock in the UK charge around £35 to £65 and make it safe, legal and a year long project to work on - no one complains and all tickets sell out every year!

This is gonna make Mr Angry bloody Hippy really Angry now innit!

Mr Spitfire

a balanced and considered posting from mr spitfire

17.08.2007 17:42

here here to all said by mr spitfire.sheffstock sounds a real shambles.a fast buck made by the organisers with the drug dealers wieghing in and make a money killing.this posting from spitfire plus the pictures i have seen of previous sheffstocks has put me off ever going.some of us don't want to attend such squalid events with freaks weirdos druggies junkies and dealers running wild leaving the civilised majority feeling threatend and unprotected.this event should be banned untill it complies with the sort of health and safetly standards that other festivals have to comply with.ban it.

18.08.2007 09:25

SHEFFSTOCK TRUTHS

24.08.2007 00:03

So much for Sheffstock being more organised and all about EQUALITY this year!

Stewards were promised they would be paid and refunded the price of their tickets. This didn't happen though. Several stewards were just refunded the price of their tickets £7 and paid NOTHING at all for their 12 - 16 hours work!

A friend's band played there, they were all charged to get in, struggled to get their money refunded and wern't paid for playing or even (most importantly) shown any gratitude for it!

The only food tent that was there was organised by Airy Fairy (Abbeydale Road) who were charging £3 for a small bowl of shitty soup and £5/£6 for a flimzy tiny meal. They must have made a fortune!!! Fair enough if it's at a huge festival that you pay £80 to get into but not Sheffstock!!!!! Boycott them, yeah they're vegan and ethical but fuck they're proper money grabbers!!!!!!

In the 2nd year running myself and several others had to help put up a marquee after shovelling shit for several hours, set up the PA, wern't fed, or paid anything and then on the last day had to pay £2.50 a can of beer from Eleanor direct while she was off her face on all sorts and wondering to herself how many thousands she'd made out of the festival.

By all means this is worth going to for the piss up but don't ever consider paying for it, the organisers pay for it with drug money. It's a good thing in the hands of the wrong people. Everybody that worked their should have been paid for it, not just the drug dealers and hairy faries!!!!!!

f anyone is likely to see any members of the shefstock committee over the coming day then please pass this urgent information on as soon as possible.

i have been contacted tonight regarding the piles of rubbish in the wharncliffe woods car park under tarps, yes i do realise that it is only temporary but can you please shift it at once. the good members of sheffield city council have expressed their intense lack of humour on the subject and are threatening to grant no more licences for events there, i don't need to explain how that will ruin it for all of us, do i...

thanks very much in advance.

thanks mole for your truthful posting....why do the fools continue to attend these rip off events....it beggars belief that people are so stupid and part with their money so easily.the council should be made aware of these crappy rip off shindigs and ban em until they are run in an ethical manner.

In Response to Modest Mole

31.08.2007 12:37

Modest Mole, If you can do any better, then do it.
Its alright to slag people off under a false name but if you had any real guts you would put your real name.
I am getting really pissed off with everyone slagging each other off.
Are we meant to be adults or are we babies.
Modest Mole, you sound like a wanker, you are probably not but we will not know that as you haven't got the balls to put your real name down.

Yeah, Thanks, you did do a nice job on your space.

It's not entirely true that you got fuck all out of it though, is it?
You guys were the only people on site apart from us, allowed to sell beer.

We should really have charged you for running a bar, as Airy Fairy were charged for running a cafe, and we had several other groups, offering to pay to run bars with music etc.

What we had decided at the meetings was that we were going to keep the bar in house, to help ensure we would still cover costs, even if we had bad weather.
A special exception was made for you based on Eryls relationship with you, and your involvement with previous events.

In addition to this you still managed to blag another £60 off us. Where as Airy Fairy, in contrast, offered us free staff meals.
I wasn't even offered a discount, on the 4 somosas I bought for volunteers, when I came to you guys!

Anyway, I hope you are all well,

I think there are going to be a lot of lessons to be learnt all round, through all of this.

Eleanor

Finance and litter

05.09.2007 23:31

Just wanted to know as an aside.
Did the horse sanctuary get paid the donation they were promised?
Did the litter ever get cleared up by those involved in the organisation and why on earth was it left there for so long?
Didn't want to listen to the rumours and wondered what the official response was from those involved.

Trouble for others

08.09.2007 16:09

It seems like Sheffstock's behaviour has caused problems for other responsible organisers in the area
