SAS invade Iran

Danny | 21.10.2007 12:51 | Anti-militarism | Iraq

The Sunday Times today has a report admitting the SAS, along with US and Australian special forces, have been launching raids into Iran from Basra.

 http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/middle_east/article2691726.ece

These cross-border incursions have been alleged by the Iranians for several years. They claim it is an attempt to destabilise thier oil rich south eastern region through explosions and assasinations. And certainly there were no explosions or assasinations in that region until the invasion of Iraq. Amid previous official denials by both British officials, who launched a counter claim of unproven Iranian involvement in Iraq, they have finally admitted what they are up to, albeit justifying it as 'intercepting gun-runners'. If that is true why can't the same special forces intercept gun runners on the border or in Iraq ? In truth it is a military invasion, a provocation to start a new war with Iran. How would the US or the UK or Australia respond if Iranian special forces invaded their countries ? The fact that they are prepared to admit this now indicates that an greater attack on Iran is imminent. With the whole region destablised, Kurdish peshmurga attacking Turkish troops, this is the closest we have ever been to World War Three since the Cuban missile crisis.

If anyone considers themselves part of the peace-movement, the time to act is now.

I would like to point out that a previous botched SAS operation which was widely reported as a cross border raid was heavily propagandised against by our own resident MI5 'spook-plant' in the comments of the following two links.

Hate to say I told you so.

MORE ON BASRA - Basra - SAS bungled operation - what is going on in our name??

Of Course

What did you think the "Iranian abduction" story was all about?

Read Seymour Hersh on the subject.

I have been following Hersh's reports with a mixture of admiration for the journalist and horror at what he is reporting.

I think the important new points about the Times story are:
1) It mentions British and Australian forces inside Iran, while I believe Hersh only reported US forces.
2) This is being admitted and briefed by British officials.

. . . . they were trying to get the message out that what they are catching are, IN ACTUAL FACT, SMUGGLERS. it aint the "bogey" state OR a "faction" within it.
