Oh, That's Just Frickin Great!

Don Beck | 14.11.2007 17:39 | Ecology

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
(IPCC) is using out-dated data to form it's report.

The deadline for data was over a year ago for info
from scientific research. That means all of their
predictions are too rosy.

They aren't using the scientific facts found in the
past year such as the oceans are not absorbing
CO2 as they used to, and the southern oceans
are starting to release their CO2 - a very scary
turning point.

They don't even have the data from 2006 that
it was the warmest year on record, and 2007
looks to be on track to be warmer yet.

This year scientists also found that CO2 levels
are rising faster than they predicted, temperatures
in the Arctic are way above any predictions,
glaciers are moving and melting three times
faster than their predictions.

Many scientists collecting data, not modeling,
found that everything is starting to accelerate;
it's happening faster than their worst predictions
of just six years ago.

Update of Recent Worldwide Climate Research Reports

This is a collection of articles from google alerts, and a few
sites such as NOAA from the past year and a half. It is very
compelling information and shows why the energy giants are
spending many millions on dis-information. Please pass this
on and post it everywhere you can. In chronological order from

Forests losing the ability to absorb man-made carbon

Two studies published today show that the increase in forest fires in
the boreal forests – the second largest forests after tropical rainforests –
have weakened one of the earth's greatest terrestrial sinks of carbon dioxide.

Scientists Say Oceans Losing Ability To Trap CO2

Measurements collected in the mid-'90s and compared to
measurements taken from 2002 to 2005 show that the ability
of that ocean to absorb CO2 has dropped by half....

"Such large changes are a tremendous surprise. We expected
that the uptake would change only slowly because of the ocean's
great mass," said Dr. Ute Schuster.

'Remarkable' Drop in Arctic Sea Ice Raises Questions, 9/25/07

A research team from the National Snow and Ice
Data Center, part of the University of Colorado at
Boulder published their report of the annual 'Arctic
Ice Minimum' last week which tells the extent of
the summer melting. It broke the previous record
set in '05, but it did so by a huge margin. The area
that melted this year is 26% more than the '05
record.

Waleed Abdalati, head of Goddard's Cryospheric Sciences Branch.
said ".... this year, the amount of ice is so far below that of previous
years that it really is cause for concern. The trend in decreasing ice
cover seems to be getting stronger and stronger as time goes on."

Sea Ice Is Getting Thinner, 9/14/07

Fifty scientists from Europe, USA, Japan, and China have been in
the Arctic for the past three months gathering data on the ice and
the environment. In 2001 the ice averaged six feet in thickness.
This year large areas of the ice are only three feet thick. (2)

“The ice cover in the North Polar Sea is dwindling, the ocean and the
atmosphere are becoming steadily warmer, the ocean currents are
changing” said chief scientist Dr Ursula Schauer, from the Alfred Wegener
Institute for Polar and Marine Research. “We are in the midst of a phase of
dramatic change in the Arctic...." she said.

World's Fastest Moving Glacier - Greenland

....advancing toward the sea at seven miles per year, compared
with three and a half miles before.

These rising temperatures have resulted in a dramatic shrinkage
of the ice covering the Arctic, with the total surface area dropping
from four to three million square kilometres (1.15 million square
miles) in just one year, the European Space Agency (ESA) said
last week.

That has created a lot of newly-exposed blue water, and is tenfold
the yearly average of ice cover lost over the previous decade.

Ticking Time Bomb Under the Ice

....climate change is melting away Arctic ice.

Now the permafrost is thawing on land and along the seabeds. If this
happens in the presence of oxygen, the decomposing of organic matter
leads to the production of CO2. If, in the absence of oxygen, the permafrost
thaws along lake shelves, the decomposing matter releases methane -- the
most potent of the greenhouse gases, with an effect 23 times that of CO2.

Scientists calculate that thousands of tons of methane will be released from
Arctic lakes as the permafrost thaws.

A global tragedy of monumental proportions is unfolding at the top of the world,
and the human race is all but oblivious to what's happening.

New historic sea ice minimum, August 9, 2007

Today, the Northern Hemisphere sea ice area broke the record for the lowest
recorded ice area in recorded history. The new record came a full month before
the historic summer minimum typically occurs. There is still a month or more of
melt likely this year. It is therefore almost certain that the previous 2005 record
will be annihilated by the final 2007 annual minima closer to the end of this summer.

Ocean 'less effective at absorbing climate change gases'

One of the Earth's major natural barriers to global warming is weakening,
scientists revealed today.

Atmospheric carbon dioxide is no longer being absorbed by the Southern
Ocean at the rate it used to be, new research shows.

The findings could have grave implications for climate change. Like the
rainforests, the Southern Ocean is one of the most important carbon "sinks"
that together remove half of all man-made emissions of carbon dioxide.

At the same time, it has unloaded more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

This is serious. "The possibility that in a warmer world the Southern Ocean -
the strongest ocean sink - is weakening is a cause for concern."

No Link Between Cosmic Rays and Global Warming

According to Sloan and Wolfendale, the 2000 paper highlighting the
connection between cosmic rays and low-level clouds completely
avoids clouds at other altitudes. This is surprising because cosmic
ray ionization should increase with altitude. Cosmic rays should be
intercepted earlier by the atmosphere and turned into clouds, not
down at the lowest altitudes. If cosmic rays were to blame, you would
expect the exact opposite, with more high-altitude clouds.

Solar Activity Not a Significant Factor of Global Warming

-You'd still get an increase in greenhouse warming even if the atmosphere
were saturated, because it's the absorption in the thin upper atmosphere
(which is unsaturated) that counts

-Water vapor doesn't overwhelm the effects of CO2 because there's little
water vapor in the high, cold regions from which infrared escapes....

Climate scientist 'duped to deny global warming'

A Leading US climate scientist is considering legal action after he says he was
duped into appearing in a Channel 4 documentary that claimed man-made global
warming is a myth. Carl Wunsch, professor of physical oceanography at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said the film, The Great Global Warming
Swindle, was 'grossly distorted' and 'as close to pure propaganda as anything
since World War Two'.

He says his comments in the film were taken out of context and that he would
not have agreed to take part if he had known it would argue that man-made global
warming was not a serious threat. 'I thought they were trying to educate the public
about the complexities of climate change,' he said. 'This seems like a deliberate
attempt to exploit someone who is on the other side of the issue.' He is considering
a complaint to Ofcom, the broadcast regulator.

Your Govt Working Hard to Keep You Uninformed - Evidence

The House Oversight and Government Reform
Committee has received a few of the documents
it has requested from the White House after
months of filing requests in their "investigation
into suspicions that the Bush White House has
edited scientific reports to downplay the effects
of global warming."

......During the Jan. 30 hearing, Waxman said documents provided to the
committee last fall showed changes were made in a draft EPA report
to add "balance" by emphasizing "beneficial effects" of climate change.
Other changes deleted a discussion of health and environmental effects
of climate change and added language saying atmospheric concentrations
of carbon are not a "good indicator of climate change," the chairman said.

The documents also showed that a statement was removed indicating
that "changes observed over the last several decades are likely mostly
the result of human activities," Waxman said.

This was rewritten to state that the link between human activity and global
warming cannot be "unequivocally established," he added.

No Bush administration officials testified at the January hearing. ......

Climate Change Impact 'underestimated due to undeclared emissions'

The UK's real impact on global warming has been
hugely underestimated, according to new research
out today.

A report published by Christian Aid reveals millions of tonnes of greenhouse gases
produced by some of the UK's top firms are not being declared.

Almost 200 million tonnes of carbon dioxide - equivalent to around one-third of the
UK's currently declared annual emissions - is missing from the annual reports of
major companies on the London Stock Exchange. But these "missing millions"
are only a small fraction of total undeclared emissions.

of global warming. The lake used to be frozen at this time of year, which
cut down on the moisture coming off it. Now, you’ve got a lot of moisture
and cooler temperatures, which creates more snow.”

The fallout of global warming: 1,000 years

Humans have already caused so much damage to the atmosphere
that the effects of global warming will last for more than 1,000 years,
according to a summary of a climate-change report being prepared by
the world's leading scientists.

The draft, seen by The Globe and Mail yesterday, also says evidence
the world is heating up is now so strong it is “unequivocal” and predicts
more frequent heat waves, droughts and rain storms, as well as more
violent typhoons and hurricanes. It concludes the higher temperatures
observed during the past 50 years are so dramatically different from
anything in the climate record that the last half-century period was likely
the hottest in at least the past 1,300 years.

Moreover, 11 of the past 12 years rank among the warmest since humans
began taking accurate temperature measurements in the 1850s, a record
of extremes so pronounced it is unlikely to be due to chance.

Exposing ExxonMobil's GW Disinformation Campaign by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

“Exxon has responded to roars of recent outrage over its anti-social antics by announcing that it has stopped funding the Competitive Enterprise Institute which has collected over $2 million from the oil giant since 1998 to weave lies about climate change - and 4-5 other groups that Exxon refused to name. Exxon’s new contrition is hardly sincere. The company still continues to fund 40 other groups in its unrelenting campaign of deception… As evidence of the company’s insincerity, Exxon’s chief executive and CEO Rex Tillerson, on Friday told world leaders in Davos that oil companies should not be held esponsible for global warming. The blame, he argued, rests instead with the very consumers and government officials his company has spent millions of dollars manipulating and defrauding. America is a decade late in addressing the serious threat from global warming largely due to ExxonMobil’s campaign of deliberate deception. ExxonMobil’s conduct amounts to a war on civilization. The company can’t simply sweep this legacy of fraud and villainy under the rug with a paid op-ed campaign in the New York Times, or with oily statements shifting the blame to consumers. The company needs to cease its campaign of deception completely if it is to genuinely atone for its crimes against humanity.”
