anonymous communique (translation):

"20,000 mink released in Sionlla [Santiago de Compostela]

During the night of 27 to 28 November a group of us decided that we would put our anti-speciest, animal liberationist beliefs into practice.

It is the time of year when the owners of mink prisons begin their slaughter. We considered it necessary to stand against this in an effective and direct way-- without hesitation.

We went to the farm located in Sionlla (Santiago), facing the Monte du Gozo and we completely emptied it; each and every one of the over 24 sheds they had, liberating over 20,000 mink. Unfortunately the proprietors of the farm, thirsty for money, already had begun the slaughter. They had already murdered at least one thousand mink, had skinned them and laid out the skins to dry. The skins were found (by us), thrown into a muddy ditch which was filled with what we thought was blood. The result was that the skins were totally unusable. We estimate the damage of this one, single act was approx. 60,000 euros. Finally, we poured water from a hose and spread food out for the mink.

The mass media have described us as environmentalists after the recent liberation that the ALF carried out in Castellón. But we want to clarify here that, although we don't dislike the term, our ecological beliefs are part of a radical rejection of the anthropocentrism commonly expressed by larger "environmental" NGO's. We believe in animal liberation as a vision of respect for the environment and all of us who are a part of it. Mink are wild animals; we only returned them to their natural state, from where they never should have been removed.

What we have done has been an expression of our beliefs in the real world. We believe that no one should be caged. And, as was warned in the first communication from the ALF, we repeat once again, this type of action will only end when the last oppressed animal is released. Until that moment we will contine forward."
