Reclaim the Campus conference

A one day conference for student activists to discuss the way forward for building a campaigning student movement.

Reclaim the Campus will now be held 11am-7pm, Saturday 17 May, at Birkbeck College (on Malet Street, London WC1, near Goodge Street, Russell Square and Euston tubes).

To make suggestions for the agenda, or to submit motions and proposals to the conference, email  reclaimthecampus@gmail.com. The deadline is Friday 16 May at 1pm. All proposals submitted so far will be appear here on Monday 12 May and on the evening of Friday 16 May.

Speakers include Daniel Randall, ENS candidate for NUS President; Gemma Short, Sheffield University NUS delegate victimised for voting against Governance Review

b) Workshop: the student movement, the workers’ movement and climate change
Facilitated by Workers’ Climate Action

Discussion on name/structure/statement of position coming out of conference
Activists will discuss involvement in Education Not for Sale or founding a new organisation

a) The lessons of 1968 and French students’ struggles today
With a French student activist and David Broder, author of We Demand Nothing, a book about workers’ and students’ struggles in 1968

b) Building a campaigning culture on campus
Sussex Not for Sale campaign; Manchester Reclaim the Uni campaign

c) What kind of international solidarity do we want? A brainstorming workshop on issues including boycotts, international workers’ struggles, ‘military intervention’ and anti-imperialism

d) Kicking the military off campus
Sam Godwin, UCL Union General Secretary suspended for anti-recruitment campaign and then reinstated, and other UCL anti-military activists
