The 4th Meeting of Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (MOP 4) and the 9th Conference of the Parties (COP 9) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is taking place in Bonn from the 12th to 30th May.
A coalition of social movements and activists' networks calls to protests under the motto "Nature for people, not for business!" We believe that in front of massive environmental destruction resulting from the plundering of resources by corporate interests, the priorities are an immediate end to privatisation and a fair distribution of natural resources in the benefit of local communities.
On http://biotech.indymedia.org you can find an overview of the action plans, reports and critical news about the negotiation inside the conference.

There are reports that New Zealand and Australia are considering a compromise deal with the whaling nations at next months International Whaling Commission meeting so it is worth contacting them too. This is effectively a back down from last years populist confrontational stance adopted after being embarrassed into action by the Sea Sheperds 'Steve Irwin' direct action.
