"Manchester Lad" speaking for many

Groovers in the mist | 02.06.2008 14:48

This post was put up today by well known and long term activist "Manchester Lad". Many of us know Paul and the work he has done in and around Manchester, Sheffield and the London area. His videos on squats should have earnt him prizes and his reporting from various actions have been top notch for years so it was a real pisser to see him walking away from Indymedia, I know why and I know the frustration he has felt about they way Indy has been going recently and I have to say that I agree with him. At the weekend I heard three people at a party say how they no longer read Indymedia because all the stories are about Jews or Israel or Palestine and fuck all about the issues in the UK that we are fighting about. I know some of the admins and I know they don't all agree with the way things are going and I understand that another is about to leave the kollective, what a mess !

For those who might be interested this is Paul's original post and the comments to it, I don't think anybody will be surprised to know it was hidden !

Indymedia, why I'm calling it a day
Manchester lad | 02.06.2008 11:47 | Indymedia | Sheffield

For months now I have grown increasingly frustrated and upset at the direction Indymedia UK has taken with the newswire. The constant emphasis on events in Israel and Palestine, the numerous stories attempting to link Jews to unrelated world events and the general move away from a UK events based news service to one that places its emphasis on the Middle East.

I think the events in that part of the world are important but I find the daily emphasis on all things Jewish to have crossed the line into clear anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism within the Left has always been an issue in the same way that racism in the trade union movement once was but I had hoped those days were gone and in the majority of the radical Left by and large it has. Regretfully within Indymedia UK that is not the case and that's why I have decided to call it a day.

Over the past six years Indymedia UK was my primary means of staying informed about events in the movement within Britian and my way of informing people about actions, events, fundraisers and some victories along the way but I will now be looking elsewhere, I have no idea where but it will not be here.

To all those who knew me by my various names I wish you luck, good times and peace. I am sure we will see one another on the streets. To those within Indymedia UK I hope there is still time to turn the boat around and the will to do it. You haven't got long people before you hit the rocks.

All the best

Sorry to hear about this ML, I enjoyed your previous posts on the squat situation around the country and really enjoyed the time we had at the heathrow camp when you made that cop say sorry.
I hope we see you soon.
Ellie

Give us more time, the site is fucked up at the moment but some of us are going to change it. Keep coming back and checking, it will improve I promise.
