Good reputation for brutal evictions!
09.06.2008 19:55
They only have a 'pretty good reputation' for brutal evictions, which included in 2005 a woman with lung cancer (in Norris Green) who was evicted while she was in court. Cobalt broke in and changed the locks while she was at court dealing with her housing benefit payment arrears, the house was not sheeted up and was consequently broken into over the weekend and all her personal and valuable possessions were stolen. Cobalt Housing's director expressed crocadile tears in the Liverpool Echo. Such a brutal eviction would have added significant stress to the serious illness the woman was suffering. Then there was the young family (in Croxteth) a few months later in year which suffered a cot death earlier in the year. Cobalt drilled through the locks on their front door while they were out and brutally evicted them, not even allowing the family's toddler the dignity of using the toilet in the house, this was also because of rent arrears, due to housing benefit delays. The house was sheeted up and they were literally thrown on the street.
So Cobalt are now property developers, so Cobalt are a charity, so Cobalt evict the most vulnerable tenants, so Cobalt Housing Company Limited are a Registered Social Landlord, so Cobalt are effectively a -profit first, tenant rights last- private landlord.
So the statement "Cobalt have a pretty good reputation" is untrue - as obviously they don't!
