Two more 'Ethnic Charter Flights'
The Home Office have been rounding up and detaining Iraqi's and Jamaicans to be removed by charter flights later this month. One to Jamaica on Friday 20th June - flight PVT 005. The date of the charter flight to Iraq is not known as those Iraqi's detained for removal have been given open ended removal directions; "flight to take place between 72 hours and 20 days from the date of notice".

Friends of Guy Njike
"Fantastic news! The Home Office has conceded the judicial review concerning the fresh evidence in Guy's asylum case. This means that the case will now not go to court but that the Home Office will treat Guy's case as a fresh claim and so take the new material into account. As it is a fresh claim Guy will have full appeal rights. At the moment we do not know how long this process will take and when Guy will receive a decision on his case.

On behalf of Guy and everyone involved in the campaign I want to thank everyone who has supported us in getting the case to this stage. Although it is still a long way to go, it is another hurdle that has been removed and without everything that you have all done it would not have been possible to get this far."

Land of no return: "All across the country, communities are organising themselves to stop their friends and neighbours from being deported. From lobbying the Home Office to foiling dawn raids, the resistance will stop at nothing to keep failed asylum seekers safe in Britain."

Ethiopia: Army Commits Executions, Torture, and Rape in Ogaden
In its battle against rebels in eastern Ethiopia's Somali Region, Ethiopia's army has subjected civilians to executions, torture, and rape, Human Rights Watch said in a new report released today. The widespread violence, part of a vicious counterinsurgency campaign that amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity, has contributed to a looming humanitarian crisis, threatening the survival of thousands of ethnic Somali nomads. "These widespread and systematic atrocities amount to crimes against humanity. Yet Ethiopia's major donors, Washington, London and Brussels, seem to be maintaining a conspiracy of silence around the crimes.

Invitation to OPEN SPACE planning meeting
Tuesday 17 June 2008 - 7 pm
At NoID Gallery, 26 Calvert Avenue, London, E2

OPEN SPACE is a proposal for a weekly daytime space where asylum-seekers, activists, local people and anyone fighting immigration controls can gather to organise campaigns, share skills and resources or just hang out.
OPEN SPACE will be run by whoever uses it. Their priorities will determine the activities and resources of the space. Upstairs a small room is available which can be used as a crèche, office space or library. Downstairs is a larger shop front space which can be used for workshops, banner-making, political discussions, film-showings, projects, language classes or a free shop. There is a small kitchen for cooking food and making tea and coffee and space to store things until the next session.

People reporting to COMMUNICATIONS HOUSE can come to the space before and after signing. They are welcome to leave details of friends, relatives or solicitors to be alerted if they are detained.

Anyone who would like to use the space or support it in other ways is invited to the planning meeting. 10-20 volunteers are needed to commit to being at the space on at least one occasion every one to two months. Once this happens, OPEN SPACE will be up and running.
