URGENT update on imminent deportation of pregnant mother and family

Kemi Ayinde, who is due to be forcibly removed TUESDAY 1 JULY, was taken into hospital today from Yarlswood detention centre

Kemi is 5 months pregnant and had been complaining of back pain and has not been able to stand up straight or walk without support. Until today she was told by staff at Yarls Wood IRC that this was normal for a pregnant woman. She was taken to hospital today and the time of writing is still there but is expected to be returned to Yarlswood by tomorrow (Tuesday).

The directions for her removal have not been changed as yet and it is still intended that the family, including their 18 month year old daughter, are to be deported tomorrow on BA Flight 0075, 12:50pm from Heathrow.

if anyone is able to offer any legal help in intervening in this removal, please contact us. So far the family have had no legal representation in detention. they also haven't had their malaria immunisation.

Please contact the British Airways pre-medical clearance unit to raise your concerns that Kemi isn't fit to fly and the family have not had their malaria immunisation. The number is 020 8738 5444, quote Kemi Ayinde, flight 0075, 12.50 to Nigeria.

Too late

In an underhand and sneaky move the Home Office goons put her on an earlier flight to the one they said they were going to. Clearly a move nobody could have anticipated so regretfully Kemi Ayinde has been deported today and we can do no more. We will not give up the fight and are now looking for the next prisoner we can support.

I spoke to the British Airways medical team this morning just after I read this and they said then that Kemi had already been deported on an earlier flight. Not wishing to be critical but were you really not able to predict that this would happen, you seem to have placed a lot of faith in the Home office telling you the truth ?

Maybe next time it would be better to have somebody with the person so others can be notified straight away and prevent a repeat of this. Just a thought and I know that people are not always available but individuals like Kemi put their trust in us and I can't help feeling that we have let her down.

Not deported!!!

...not yet anyway. The airline refused to take them. The public pressure on BA, especially on the pre-medical clearance unit meant they are now refusing to fly the family. They were taken to the airport at 6am this morning and were actually taken on board the plane before paper work was looked at by BA staff before take off who informed Kemi they had been heavily advised she was not fit to fly! The family weretaken back to Yarlswood detention centre early this evening and haven't been given any further details about deportation as of yet, which means they've got at least 72 hours before there is another attempt to deport.

Massive thanks to everyone who got in contact, especially with the airline, it can get results. If anyone would like to get more involved with anti-deportation campaigns in south Wales either with a group or just learn what they can be effective with over the phone/internet come along to the No Borders Public meeting this thursday:
