Pre-Climate Camp street medic training!
Head Tilt, Chin Lift | 01.07.2008 18:24 | Climate Camp 2008 | Climate Chaos | Health | Social Struggles
The venue is as yet unconfirmed, but the training will take place in central Leeds, and we can give you directions from the train/bus station. It is essential to book a place so we know how many people are coming - please email medics@climatecamp.org.uk to do this, or with any questions.
The Action Medics will be running a medic space at this year’s Climate Camp. Your help would be welcome – we require that volunteers have either taken:
a) our weekend Action Medics training & CPR training
OR
b) First Aid At Work, with experience of scenarios and CPR training
If you’d like to be involved, please email us at medics@climatecamp.org.uk

Use either bottled water (from mains water) or if numbers dictate, a bowser, but make sure it's in good nick and has all the health stamps as they can harbour nasty bugs.
If the on site medics are swamped or someone is REALLY ill then please approach one of the police medics, they wear load carrying vests and are highly trained (close to paramedic), they have access to better kit than normal and can get you help far faster.
Morals and personal dislike mean NOTHING if life is on the line.
have a great time.

Ivy Watts - come to our training and you'll find out
Harry Purvis - Not sure who your advice is aimed at, I suspect you will find that people have already been working on the water setup and public health issues for about a year... our training covers everything that First Aid at Work does, except CPR, but quicker, in more depth, and with extra sections. And it's a tenth of the price. As for police medics, have you ever been treated by one? I'd call them if there was no-one else around, but I'd have to be pretty fucked up before I handed myself over to the cops for treatment.

As for cop medics, well yes they can be a bit rough and ready but if your in real trouble they are a god send (been there, was patched and shipped in half the time normal marshals would have done), even basic police have to be CPR and ELS trained, plus now they have to be Defib trained as well. (worth remembering that their oath states that first they are to protect LIFE and then property)
As for the CPR, please get it and Defib as the rate of survival goes from 5/8% for cpr to 80% for defib, and if your in town or near a public building then they will most probably have one.
Sorry if this all sounded like egg sucking but I have seen people go down for the stupidest reasons all over the world and don't want it to happen here.
have a good time and hope that all this is not needed.
