Imagine starting a business from zero, making $5mln in one year, and than GIVING AWAY half (!) of it.
That’s exactly what Terry Hladyak of MakeMeShare.com promises to do.
“Give me $5mln, and I will give half of it ($2.5mln) to charities”. A brilliant way of bringing visitors, as well as media attention.
Does he offer any service, along with asking for money? Yes, he does. And, actually, a good one. His website, MakeMeShare.com offers user-friendly pixel advertising, starting at $100 for a 5-year advertising period. And it has all the signs of a future media pet.
Pixel-2
The website is based on pixel advertising, and advertising method introduced successfully by Alex Tew (UK) on his MillionDollarHomepage.com. Nothing new, one would say. However, till now pixel advertising alone wasn’t a good idea, as it offered little usability to website visitors. Tew’s famous webpage presented a 1,000 by 1,000 pixel grid which displayed ads on different topics placed next to each other.
Hladyak offers a new, user-friendly way to present pixel ads. He calls it “Pixel-2”. The changes that turn pixel advertising into Pixel-2 are simple yet important. Pixel-2 is based on two major principles.
The first one is Topic Grouping. Website’s pages contain pixel grids that are divided into smaller panels; each panel shall display ads under a specific topic shown above the panel. Hladyak claims users will find Topic Grouping convenient, as finding links on a specific topic will be much easier.
The second principle of Pixel-2 is Visibility. The grids on MakeMeShare.com are twice smaller that the earlier, “traditional” pixel grids; their dimension is only 1,000 by 500 pixels. This dimension allows most visitors see the whole grid altogether, without a need to scroll down. Of cause, if someone still uses an old monitor with a small resolution, the smaller grid’s height will only reduce scrolling, but not eliminate it totally. However, taking to account that new monitors are getting larger and larger, the problem of monitor resolution may loose its importance soon.

MakeMeShare.com is brand-new: as it says, it had been launched on August 1, 2008. And I stumbled upon it yesterday, on August 4, at a free press-release service. So, today is August the 5th, and the site does not have any advertisers on it. Ok, it’s still a baby…
Actually, and empty site at the beginning is a good sign: one can be sure the site’s owner have not placed faked ads, or ads that belong to his friends/relatives, to make the website look more popular. My respect.
It seems he understands though that the first advertisers may somehow be reluctant. So, he offers an award for the first 25 advertisers: he promises to place them on an additional list on his website. A fair award, I would say, taking to account the site can accommodate hundreds thousands ads.
Will It Become Popular?
A new way of displaying ads is important, and I am sure visitors will appreciate it. However, it alone may be not enough for getting maximum popularity. And that where the buzz comes into the play.

You are right. There is no guarantee if he makes that money. I am sure though he will make a decent amount. His ideal scenario, I guess, would be getting a little less than $5mln… But no matter how much he makes (even though it probably matters to him ), I will be watching his project. Why? Because I’m curious how much money he will make and how fast. And who advertises there.
Regular Internet users will watch it. Bloggers will watch it. Media will watch it. And of course, advertisers themselves.
Why? Because millions people around the world watch soap operas, curios to see if the heroes finally merry, some 170 parts ahead. Because billions people around the world read news regularly, following the war between Country A and Country B, or an affair between Celebrity C and Celebrity D. And they will want to know how much that guy made. And if he finally looses half of it… Yes, people are envy…
