why come to the carnival

Carnival Against Vivisection | 19.08.2008 17:03 | Stop Sequani Animal Testing | Animal Liberation | Repression | Social Struggles | Birmingham | World

there are no organisers, no leaders
our right to protest has disappeared
this IS the place to take direct action
enough is enough, it's time to fight back
for the animals suffering inside Sequani labs
the Animal Liberation Front said they'd be there

sean kirtley was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison
for all the animals suffering in the hands of abusers
for all the animals who die every day inside Sequani

a day of autonomous direct action and mass rally
it's time to fight back, will you be there, for them?
if not you, who? If not now, when? If not this, what?

Appearance of the ALF...

19.08.2008 18:29

the ALF is everyone who chooses to take part in non-violent direct action to help animals. It is not a specific group of certain people who will be making a guest appearance at the Carnival Against Vivisection! Just wanted to point that out...

see you there!

Direct action?

19.08.2008 19:16

The carnival sounds really great, but direct action, in daylight, in public, with all the cops to hand, with all the anti AR legislation they're just dying to use? Sounds more like a media stunt. How effective will this be for the animals when the most active people get banged up when they can achieve so much more out of the glare of publicity.
Hope everyone masks up too cos this will be a handy photo op for FIT.
This is just a thought and i don't want to spoil the fun ;-)

By the picture it looks like a masking up event

19.08.2008 21:14

The poster is even calling for an autonomous bloc so it will most definitely look a lot like the frontline of the smash edo march....and hopefully end like it too.

Direct action is broad daylight ain't so bad...the last carnival achieved quite a bit...only difference with this event is there are lives to save, instead of damage to cause...

How will this help animals?

21.08.2008 23:48

I'm betting 40-60 people will turn up. What is the purpose of this day? To do some criminal damage? Maybe it will vent some of your rage but ultimately how will this help a single animal?

I'm sorry to say that 'carnival' is appropriate for what the AR movement has become. It seems more about going through the motions than looking to what will stop vivisection. Vivisection is going up and up, year on year yet the movement keeps claiming to be 'winning' and carries on with the same tactics. A radical (different not militant) new approach is needed. I don't have the answers but wearing masks and winding up the police might be rock and roll but it's not helping animals.

Criticism?

22.08.2008 22:05

I see that you are unable to take any criticism and delete posts you don't like. Sorry to burst your bubble, violent direct action isn't what the majority of animal advocates want, you are very much in the minority setting back what good people have done! Rome wasn't built in a day and reguardless what you say violence isn't going to work, quote what past cause has used it won't change the fact that society has moved on and change can't be done by intimidation, it's immoral and two wrongs don't make a right.

Again I will say that the about is reason enough not to turn up to this.

// "What is the purpose of this day? To do some criminal damage?"
As somebody else said: "there are lives to save, instead of damage to cause"

// "I'm betting 40-60 people will turn up."
Are you mad? The last Sequani march (pre Sean Kirtley & Sequani Six trial) had over 150 activists. Since then the SSAT campaign has launched forward, so expect the masses. 40-60 people will be there - masked up - if that's what you mean!

// "year on year yet the movement keeps claiming to be 'winning' and carries on with the same tactics"
It's kind of because 39 breeders for vivisection labs have been closed down in the UK. There are only a few left now, labs are sourcing a lot of their animals from abroad because of the low supply, or even complete lack of species, further increasing the cost of torture. It's not claiming to be winning; it's taking victories. It's step by step. It's called resistance!

PS
What violence are you talking about Pete, there's been no mention of any violence and certainly no one has advocated any? Are you trying to equate the liberation of an individual from a place of torture, to be violent? Let's not forget many Nazi resisters disagree with this ludicrous 'theory', as there is nothing ideologically violent about aiding someone to their freedom. Theft is not violence.... unless online credit card fraud is violence?!

do you think we are all daft?

"The police could get a good kicking at this one so make sure you mask-up before you get close to the meeting point."

This is the sort of rhetoric comming from supporters is a good indication of what is expected and the lack of condemnation from anyone is also a good clue it's condoned.

Notice the lack of support for "grassroots" campaigners around, support has dropped drastically. The animal rights movement is self destructing because of people such as yourself.

It's almost as if the "industry" put you all there to help it along. I for one don't support property damage or intimidation the sort of direct action ego junkies enjoy.

If you want to do something for animals then I suggest you put away you masks and huddies and do something more constructive and less destructive.

Those who advocate violence

25.08.2008 14:20

Those who advocate violence are always in the minority, but they are always present in EVERY social/rights movement, it's something as a pacafist you have to accept when fight for animal rights/liberation. I doubt there's much to "worry" about...

Have you been LIVING under a rock??? There has been MORE direct actions this year in the UK for animal liberation so far than any other year....its repression thats causing solidarity and resistance. SHAC demos have increased and become more and more consistent.

Quote:

This is where YOU are in the minority, as the majority support the 'illegal' liberation of animals, property destruction, animal rights prisoners, as SHAC do, as the majority of grassroots campaigners support SHAC, true story.

SHAC is continuing to grow (if anything its only just getting started!) as will the continued resistance to the dictatorship thats looms over us, regardless of whether we act or not.

SHAC still get a total of 600/700 people to march every year, whether its in 2 national marches (North/South) or 1, so you're getting a bit confused I think as to where support is actually shifting towards.......the underground, grassroots, self-organisation and militant activism.

Quote:
"I suggest you put away you masks and huddies and do something more constructive and less destructive."

I guess you mean like writing a letter to your PM, or the media, but nothing direct, right? Of course, because all the previous animal abusing companies were closed by the government!
