NW // Legal support for the Carnival Against Vivisection + Bustcard download

Netcu Watch | 03.09.2008 12:07 | Stop Sequani Animal Testing | Animal Liberation | Repression

Netcu Watch have set up a legal support network for those who get nicked (and their friends/family).

Our legal support number is 07597 541638 we would recommend that you tell police that you wish that number to be informed of your detention and Bindmans & Partners Solicitors have agreed to give legal advice to activists arrested their number is 07659 136205 - We strongly recommend not using the duty solicitor.

WRITE BOTH OF THESE NUMBERS ON YOUR ARM BEFORE GOING ON AN ACTION!

IMPORTANT INFO!

- We recommend a no comment interview when taken to interview if arrested.

- Do not accept any pieces of paper from the police at ANY time during the protest, footage of you accepting section 12 & 14 public order notices can be used against you in court.

- And if the cops start talking over a megaphone to issue a s12 or 14 just clap your ears shouting la la la... hehe.

- Do not publish video footage or photos you have taken which might incriminate others after the demonstration and please send us any good photos and video you have taken of the demo and cops to warn at riseup dot net.

Check out and print the bust card.

Section 12 & 14 conditions

03.09.2008 13:07

The bustcard doesn't make it clear that police can impose whatever conditions they like (for example: censor banners and placards, ban giving out leaflets) on a procession under section 12.

Don't photo the demo

03.09.2008 18:28

This bit is silly "Do not publish video footage or photos you have taken which might incriminate others after the demonstration and please send us any good photos and video you have taken of the demo and cops to warn at riseup dot net."

Why send possibly incriminating photo's of the demo to that email address? How about NO ONE takes photos of the demo, restrict photo's to the police only. If you happen to catch a demonstrator in picture completely blank them out, not just face the whole body.

DON'T send photo's of demo to any email address.

Doh

This is just advice, here is more

Most importantly, don't publish photos that haven't been resized to the newswire, this is the by far the easiest way to incriminate further douzens, even hundreds of activists, a few of which FIT may have missed.

Secondly, when publishing photos, resize them to a smaller size than average (unless it's a copper/fit, then have it much larger). For example like these photos...

 http://indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/06/401604.html?c=on#c199615 or
 http://indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/08/406148.html

This just saves incriminating others. If you can't or don't want to publish photos in this way, which is the polite and respectful way (especially on these types of demos, but not a requirement), simply blur out the faces of individuals (again not officers) who can be distinguished, or otherwise make sure that they are not recognisable. This is just common practice when covering anti-fascist events or climate camp, smash edo, etc.

On the other hand, if you're concerned about individuals publishing your face on indymedia, simply mask up and avoid this problem! Remember: the police will still have a photo of you even if it wasn't published on indymedia...think a bandanas&balaclavas.

What video/photo's do you want?

04.09.2008 00:30

I'll be at the carnival with my video camera. I was going to use it to keep tabs on the police. If there is any illegal actions by the police I was going to publish it, after this I'll probably hand it to the solicitors to yuse to defend arrested activists.

I don't understand why warn wants my video? I thought the post was from NETCU Watch? Does NW want it for legal defence? If so why are we sending it to warn rather than Bindmans solicitors or direct to NETCU Watch/FIT Watch themselves?

In answer to a reply above, I will try my best not to get any footage that the police could use against people. If I do I will delete it as soon as possible. If possible I will also make sure people nearby are warned when my video microphone is on.

I don't understand why warn wants my video?

04.09.2008 07:15

I thought the post was from NETCU Watch?
Answer: It is, warn members are part of the NW network.

Does NW want it for legal defence?
Answer: Yes, send it to them (if you feel comfortable doing so) as it will be more easier to identify and sort out than sending it directly to Bindmans.

A bit confusing.

04.09.2008 08:37

Lots of good advice in the post, but after recent rumours flying around AR groups about some members of Warn I think it's a mistake to ask people to send you their (possibly incriminating) videos as this will only add fuel to the rumours. I personally don't believe any of the rumours but some are starting to and posts asking for things like this really don't help!

Everyone should be careful not to film or photograph anything that could be used against activists. Certainly agree with the original post and some replies that say don't publish pictures that could get others in trouble. Keep your cameras pointed at the police.

Good luck on the demo

Re: Streetlawyer

Because section 12 and 14 public order says NOTHING about censoring banners and stopping people from handing out leaflets...

If anyone wishes further reading about these sections of Public order act please check out...

Rather than posting rubish why not actually post usful information, lets hope you are not a real lawyer eh?

For the record....

04.09.2008 08:59

Netcu Watch is run by activists in the WARN (West of England area)....

Agreed, if you dont wish to send us footage then thats cool, we wanted to be helpful and act as a hub for those who might face legal proceedings.... those of you who know us personally should send what you can, other people who dont know us personally please dont bother.

However I dont think it does much for rumour by re-posting about rumours as it does nothing to help the shit stiring situation.
