Bradford Uni test on animals

bradford student | 02.10.2008 11:16 | Animal Liberation

University of Bradford has had an active animal testing lab for years and years-why is this not better known and acted upon?

Postgraduates and staff in the School of Life Sciences (and others) are actively testing on animals. The whereabouts of the Animal House is kept highly secret and the university does all it can to conceal the fact that they own and operate an animal torture facility.

Searching the university's website reveals a few small hints as to the nature of the operation and it is known that the university has a secret, separate ethics committee for research involving animals.

most universities do, unfortunately. the vast majority of research liscences are held by universities. a quick look at the home office statistics for animal research might surprise some, and yet there are very few universities with active campaigns against them.

Vivisection Lab location

02.10.2008 16:49

The building which Bradford Uni do vivisection in is the new one at the bottom of the campus (where you continue walking down the 'hill' with the main foyer on your right. It's grey and brown, new and they say they do cancer research there.

It's run by a bloke who used to be a manager at B&K Universal vivisection breeders, but split from his wife and went to Bradford Uni.

Scientific Research does not have to be cruel

02.10.2008 23:21

The cages on either side of the room held rabbits. On one side the rabbits cowered in the back of the cage if you approached. On the other they came forward to meet and greet you.

Both lots were being injected every day. They were injected by different people. They were in different experiments, but did the same job. They worked at organised scientific research finding out about drugs for the benefit of all animals.

There was also an unorganised scientific experiment going on. Unfortunately I lost contact, so do not know whether the Scientist who fondled and petted his rabbits had so much benefit from doing that he outlived the uptight grab and jab Scientist. Do not know how their respective children fared in life.

'humane' animal research

03.10.2008 04:29

1. 'Humane' animal research does not exist, by its very nature the object is to inflict some disease or wound upon the animal resulting in its eventual death.

2. Animal research is not 'scientific research' as vivisection is not science but pseudo science - its results can never be extrapolated to human beings who are different on every level. Hence the millions of peole who have been, and continue to be, injured and killed by drugs and procedures first found 'safe' in animals.

Bradford Animal Abuse

03.10.2008 10:28

Not only does the Uni have an Animal Testing facility but there are numerous centres where animals are slaughtered without the prior use of stunning, purely in the name of some religious belief. This should be viewed as the same breach of Animal Rights as laboratory testing.

Likewise Animal Rights are abused daily by the use of dogs for fighting purposes in the Bradford area.

It would be interesting to refer to available statistics to see how many halal and kosher slaughterings there have been in the Bradford area and to consider the animal rights that have been breached by these processes.

Do not overstate the case Steve.

When they had done their stint in the lab, I had three of the friendly rabbits to live on my lawn as mowers. They were good industrious workers and lived for years.

And the research not only benefits people, but animals too.

Human medicines go through animal trials first, but are tried on selected live people before being generally availlable. There are some people who volunteer for the trials. Sometimes with disasterous consequences, so perhaps there are not enough volunteers to do a proper job.

One of the problems in Science is that Money hires Scientists to make patents to make more money. Since Thatcher the evil consequences of that might be found in University Labs.

But it would be rather sad if some animal rights activists kicked the shit out of that that bloke who petted his research animals and found them secure retirement.
