Christian Rodrigue Mbianga / Past his fly by date
"Thankfully the removal last Saturday did not go ahead. His lawyer lodged a judicial review, but we didn't know if the judge had accepted/rejected it. However the main thing is the flight did not go ahead, and for the time being Christian is still in Colnbrook IRC.

Christian wants everyone to know he is very grateful for all their support and many phone calls it made such a difference to him knowing he had the support of all his friends and the community."

Northern Ireland: Refugee Action Group (RAG) - open meeting

5:30pm - 6:30pm, Wednesday 15 October 2008
Venue: Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre,
45/47 Donegall Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland

Meeting to: Welcome Inderjit Bhogal from City of Sanctuary and learn more about this movement; discuss sanctuary and welcome in Belfast

Give an update on ongoing RAG campaigns and work from co-chairs Anna Morvern and Paul Kazadi.

"Seahorses seized...Fiat motor home toilet...London zoo breeding programmes...Chinese students...wigs...more beds in detention...facial recognition gates...person removed every eight minutes"

This is not a dream diary for a particularly hallucinogenic and paranoid trip. It is an extract from the UK Border Agency’s press release last Friday about its immigration policy.

Faced with this irrationality and fear from those in government, and its daily impact on the lives of refugees, how can we continue to welcome outsiders?

GPs win care fight for asylum seekers
The government is ready to scrap controversial plans to clamp down on so-called 'health tourism' among asylum seekers, following a revolt by doctors. Ministers had threatened to withdraw the right to free GP treatment from asylum seekers whose claims were rejected, forcing them to pay for care privately or go without in all cases except emergencies. However, doctors have argued the move would be unethical and potentially illegal, with some saying they would treat patients regardless of any new rules. The Home Office and Department of Health - which was due to publish its decision later this month - are understood to be reconsidering their position after conceding that there was no proof that free primary care was encouraging refugees to come to Britain.
